Motorola Edge 2026 Shrinks The Body, Then Cuts Storage In Half For A Smaller Package

Motorola is taking the Edge line in a different direction for the US and Canada with the Edge (2026), and the biggest change is not an extra camera or a faster chip. It is the smaller 6.3-inch display, a move that makes the phone feel more compact even as Motorola keeps the rest of the package positioned firmly in the upper end of the midrange.

That shift matters because the previous regional models went the opposite way. Edge (2024) used a 6.6-inch screen, and Edge (2025) expanded further to 6.7 inches, so the new model stands out immediately for doing less with size while still aiming for a premium experience.

A smaller body, but not a softer display

The Edge (2026) uses what Motorola calls an “Extreme OLED” panel, and the specifications remain strong on paper. The screen offers 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of up to 5,200 nits.

That makes the display one of the phone’s main selling points, even if the panel itself has been reduced. Motorola appears to be trying to preserve the flagship-style viewing experience while moving the device into a more manageable form factor.

The real trade-off is storage

Inside, the phone runs on the Dimensity 7450, which is a modest step up from the Dimensity 7400 used in Edge (2025). Motorola says the new chip brings about a 7 percent boost in AI performance, but the generational jump is otherwise fairly restrained.

The more noticeable downgrade is storage. Edge (2026) includes 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM, but its internal storage is limited to 128GB, which is less than the 256GB offered by the previous model.

For many buyers, that reduction may be the hardest compromise to accept. Motorola has made the phone smaller and kept the battery reasonable, yet it is the storage cut that may feel most restrictive in daily use.

Cameras stay well equipped

Motorola has not scaled back the camera setup much at all. The main camera is a 50MP unit with a Sony Lytia 710 sensor sized at 1/1.56 inches, along with OIS and 4K video recording.

On the back, the phone also carries a 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 122-degree field of view. That lens supports Macro Vision, giving the setup extra flexibility for close-up shots.

The front camera is also a 50MP unit, which is one of the most prominent specs on the handset. Motorola likewise keeps a telephoto camera in place, using a 3x optical zoom lens with OIS and a 10MP sensor that matches last year’s model.

Battery, charging, and durability

The battery is rated at 5,000mAh, down from 5,200mAh on Edge (2025). Even so, the smaller display gives the change some context, and Motorola still pairs it with fast charging support.

Wired charging reaches 60W through TurboPower, while wireless charging is rated at 15W TurboPower. Motorola says just 7 minutes of wired charging can provide enough power for a full day, and 34 minutes on wireless charging is claimed to deliver the same result.

Protection also remains a priority. The front is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and the phone carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings for water resistance and high-pressure water spray. Motorola says the device has double the drop and scratch resistance of its predecessor, and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos are part of the package as well.

Availability, software support, and a new color

Motorola began selling Edge (2026) on June 11. In the US, the phone is available unlocked through Motorola.com and Best Buy for $600, while AT&T, Cricket Wireless, Spectrum Wireless, and Xfinity Mobile also launched their versions on the same day.

In Canada, the same unlocked model went on sale through Motorola.ca on June 11, with local carriers expected to follow later. Motorola is offering the phone in Pantone Martini Olive, and it promises three Android OS upgrades for the device.

The company is also highlighting Smart Connect for syncing files and apps across devices. That approach fits the broader message of Edge (2026): Motorola is choosing a more compact direction, but it is keeping the bright display, full camera suite, strong charging support, and durable design that define the Edge name in North America.
