Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Battery Gain Looks Minimal, While Android Still Pulls Far Ahead

The first signs surrounding iPhone 18 Pro suggest Apple is preparing another modest battery update rather than a dramatic leap. The numbers now circulating point to an upgrade that will be hard to feel in daily use, especially when compared with the much larger capacities common on Android flagships.

Digital Chat Station on Weibo says the iPhone 18 Pro will carry a 4,288 mAh battery in the US market. For China, the figure is lower at 4,056 mAh, while the US version is expected to stay without a physical SIM slot, just like iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

A very small step over the previous generation

The increase looks especially thin when lined up with the iPhone 17 Pro. In the eSIM version, the gap is only 36 mAh, since that model sits at 4,252 mAh.

The pattern is similar for regions that still use a physical SIM tray. Compared with the previous generation’s 3,988 mAh, the 4,056 mAh battery in that version of iPhone 18 Pro is only 68 mAh larger.

Apple still appears to be betting on efficiency

Battery life does not come from capacity alone, and Apple seems to be relying on that once again. iPhone 18 Pro is said to use the A20 Pro chip, which is expected to be one of the first chips built on a 2nm process and to bring performance gains.

That approach fits Apple’s recent pattern. In earlier testing, iPhone 17 Pro was already able to last through a full day under normal use, so without major changes in iOS 27, the next model may deliver a similar result in practice.

The Android comparison remains wide

The rumored battery numbers also look modest next to some Android rivals. Apple is still far from the 6,400 mAh capacity seen on OnePlus 15 or the 6,800 mAh battery on Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

That gap explains why the iPhone 18 Pro’s reported upgrade may disappoint users hoping for a stronger battery push. For now, the leaked figures suggest Apple is focusing more on internal efficiency, chip gains, and physical space constraints than on chasing a much larger mAh number.

Different battery sizes for different markets

The leak also reinforces Apple’s ongoing split between the US and China markets. Even with the same model name, the battery capacity would not be identical, which means the iPhone 18 Pro family would continue to ship with different internal configurations.

With 4,288 mAh in the US and 4,056 mAh in China, the change looks more like a technical adjustment than a major battery overhaul. That makes the rumored upgrade feel cautious rather than aggressive, especially for buyers who were hoping for a clearer move toward Android-level capacity.
