Samsung’s next foldable lineup is starting to look more complicated than expected, and the biggest reason is the growing evidence for a Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. A listing in the Bluetooth SIG database has pushed that name from rumor territory into something much harder to dismiss.
What makes the situation more confusing is that Samsung’s book-style foldable range now appears to be headed for two separate models, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The naming shift has reportedly been developing for weeks, and some of the earlier model names have already changed along the way.
A certification trail that points to a real product
Bluetooth SIG does not reveal full hardware details, but its database is often a meaningful sign that a device is moving closer to launch. In this case, the listing includes five model numbers for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: SC-56G, SCG39, SM-F976C, SM-F976Q, and SM-F976Z.
Those codes usually suggest that a device is being prepared for different markets or carriers. Samsung has not publicly explained the new naming pattern, but the certification record is the strongest evidence so far that the Ultra version is not just a placeholder.
Why the “Ultra” label matters
The use of the Ultra name could mark a more premium positioning for Samsung’s foldable book-style phone. So far, Ultra branding has been closely associated with the top tier of the Galaxy S family, which means its arrival in the Fold line may alter how the product range is perceived.
That shift also appears to be part of a broader identity change inside the series. Galaxy Z Fold8 was previously referred to as Fold8 Wide, while the device that was once called Fold8 is now pointing toward the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra name.
Two Fold models, two different directions
Early leaks suggest Samsung may be preparing the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra as distinct products rather than simple name variations. The Ultra model is said to carry a 5,000 mAh battery and support 45W wired charging.
It is also rumored to weigh 215 grams, while another claim says it will measure 4.1 mm when unfolded. That thickness figure is said to be 0.1 mm slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold7, which suggests Samsung may be trying to refine the foldable form factor without sacrificing battery capacity.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 is said to take a different approach. It is reportedly set to include a 4,800 mAh battery, 45W charging, and a lighter 201-gram body.
Camera and design clues for the regular model
The regular Fold8 is also expected to feature a new 50MP camera with native 24MP output. That detail hints at a separate product identity for the base model, even though both devices appear to share similar charging support.
Meanwhile, both the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra are said to focus on a very subtle display crease. Their screen fold line has been described as minimal and even compared with the Oppo Find N6.
That specific detail could matter a great deal in the foldable premium segment, where visible crease quality remains one of the most closely watched design issues.
What is still missing
Despite the certification appearance and the leaked hardware clues, several major pieces are still unknown. There is no confirmed information yet about the chipset, display size, or the full camera setups for either Fold8 model.
Bluetooth SIG also does not provide those details, so the certification data only strengthens the case that the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra exists, not what it will fully offer. Samsung is still keeping official explanations of the naming changes to itself.
The current rumor chain also places the possible unveiling on 22 July in London, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8. If that timing proves accurate, Samsung could be preparing one of its most significant foldable updates yet, with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra now emerging as the most closely watched model in the lineup.
