Instagram Plus Arrives Globally, Story-First Features Lead a $3.99 Monthly Tier

Meta’s latest subscription push is putting Instagram Stories at the center of a paid tier designed for users who want more control, more visibility tools, and more ways to personalize the app. Instagram Plus has begun rolling out globally, while the regular Instagram experience remains free.

The new package is not framed as a replacement for the existing app. Instead, Meta positions it as an optional add-on for users who want deeper insight, broader customization, and more flexible story features than the standard version offers.

Story becomes the main premium focus

A large part of Instagram Plus is built around Story activity. Meta divides the paid features into three main groups, and the first group is aimed at making story interactions more prominent and more adaptable.

Story Spotlight is one of the most noticeable additions because it gives a user’s story higher priority for friends. That raises the chance that the story will be seen sooner than it would in the regular display flow.

Another feature, Story Extend, increases the viewing window from 24 hours to 48 hours. The extra time gives close contacts a longer period to see the content that has been shared.

Instagram Plus also includes Super Hearts, which lets users send more visually striking heart animations when reacting to a friend’s story. Multiple Story Audiences expands the way stories can be shared by allowing more audience lists, rather than limiting users to Close Friends alone.

More detailed ways to observe story activity

The second group of features is aimed at users who want a quieter and more precise way to track story interaction. These tools focus less on display and more on observation, preview, and viewer behavior.

Story Preview allows users to press and hold a friend’s story to preview it without appearing in the viewer list. That makes it possible to look at content more discreetly without leaving a visible trace.

Story Rewatch Insights adds another layer by showing how many times a story has been watched again by other people. Search Viewer List is designed to make it easier to check whether a specific person has viewed a story, without manually going through the full viewer list.

Together, these tools show that Instagram Plus is not only about adding visual extras. It also gives users more specific ways to monitor story engagement.

Customization extends beyond stories

The third feature group moves away from story controls and into personalization. Instagram Plus includes Custom App Icon, which lets users choose from several app icons prepared by Instagram together with Instagram creators.

Custom Bio Font gives users a way to change the font in their profile bio so it fits their personal style. More Profile Pins raises the number of pinned posts from three to as many as six, giving profiles more room for selected content.

Post Directly to Profile is another notable option. It allows users to upload posts straight to their profile or highlights without showing them in friends’ feeds, which can make the profile look more curated and organized.

Price and Meta’s wider subscription direction

Access to the full set of Instagram Plus features costs USD 3.99 per month. Meta says the list is not final yet, and more exclusive features are expected to be added in the coming months.

Instagram Plus is arriving alongside Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus. Facebook Plus is described as offering features similar to Instagram Plus, while WhatsApp Plus focuses more on customization, including app themes, custom ringtones, premium stickers, and similar options.

The rollout highlights Meta’s broader move toward subscription-based services across its major apps. On Instagram, the direction is already clear: Stories are being turned into the core of the premium experience, while profile and app personalization serve as supporting layers for users who want a more flexible setup.
