iPhone 18 Pro Leaks Hint at Different Battery Sizes for China and the Global Market

Apple’s next Pro iPhone is already drawing attention for a detail that usually sits far below the headline features: battery size. A leak suggests the iPhone 18 Pro may not ship with the same battery capacity everywhere, with China and global markets reportedly getting different specs.

The claim comes from leaker Digital Chat Station, who says the China version of the iPhone 18 Pro will carry a 4,056 mAh battery. Units sold in the United States and other global markets are said to use a larger 4,288 mAh cell.

That difference is not enormous, but it is still unusual for a flagship line that is expected to feel consistent across regions. Even so, both figures are reported to be higher than the battery capacity of the previous generation.

The battery rumor is only part of a broader shift expected for the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple is also said to be preparing the A20 Pro chip for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, and that processor is expected to use a 2-nanometer manufacturing process.

That jump matters because a 2nm chip should bring a major step forward in both performance and power efficiency. In practice, that could reduce the impact of any regional battery gap during everyday use, especially if the new chip is as efficient as expected.

Camera changes could raise the production load

Apple is also reported to be testing a variable aperture system for the main camera. The feature would let the lens adjust its opening automatically depending on lighting conditions, which could improve photo results in low light.

The rear setup is still expected to keep three 48-megapixel cameras. However, the optical components and sensors are said to be completely new, which adds complexity to production.

That combination of a new chip, a more complicated camera system, and different battery configurations across markets may push manufacturing costs higher. As a result, speculation has grown that the iPhone 18 Pro could launch at a higher price.

Digital Chat Station believes Apple may face pressure from those costs, but the company is also said to be considering absorbing part of the camera-related upgrade expense to avoid a sharp price increase. That would fit Apple’s usual balancing act between raising specs and keeping the product within a familiar premium range.

Design changes appear to be on hold

For users hoping for a major visual overhaul, the iPhone 18 Pro does not appear ready to deliver one. The device is expected to keep a design language similar to the current model.

Apple is reportedly reserving bigger design changes for its 20th-anniversary iPhone, which is rumored to arrive in 2027. That would leave the iPhone 18 Pro focused mainly on internal upgrades rather than a fresh external look.

The result is a phone line that may stand out more for what is inside than what is visible from the outside. With a 2nm chip, updated camera hardware, and a battery setup that may vary by region, the iPhone 18 Pro is shaping up as one of Apple’s more technically ambitious premium phones, even as questions remain about how differently it will be configured from China to the rest of the world.
