Xiaomi has revived a form factor that many brands have largely left behind. The Redmi SonicBass 2 arrives in Europe as a neckband headset, offering a familiar alternative to fully wireless earbuds at €34.90, or around Rp590,000.
For users who want something practical and less likely to disappear during movement, the design itself is the main appeal. The earbuds remain linked by a cable, while the neck module houses the controls and battery.
Why the neckband still makes sense
In a market dominated by true wireless products, the neckband layout gives the SonicBass 2 a clear identity. If one earbud slips out while running or walking, it does not fall away completely because it remains attached by the cable.
That practical advantage comes with a trade-off. The cable around the neck may feel intrusive for some people, especially during longer sessions or more intense activity.
Modern basics without extra frills
Xiaomi equips the SonicBass 2 with 9.2 mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.2, and a USB-C port. The headset is designed to cover everyday listening needs without pushing into premium territory.
Battery life is one of its strongest selling points. Xiaomi says the headset can play music for up to 16 hours on a single charge, which makes it suitable for a full workday or a long trip.
Built for light exercise and outdoor use
The SonicBass 2 also carries an IPX5 rating, which means it can handle splashes and sweat. That makes it a more reassuring option for light workouts or use in less predictable weather.
It does not include Active Noise Cancellation, so outside sounds will remain audible during use. For some people, that may be a benefit when exercising outdoors, although it also means the listening experience will not feel as isolated in noisy places.
Availability remains limited
At the moment, the headset appears to be available only in Germany through a retail store. The retailer notes that stock cannot be guaranteed immediately, suggesting this is still a limited rollout rather than a broad European launch.
There is no information yet on whether the Redmi SonicBass 2 will reach Indonesia. Even so, the product fits Xiaomi’s usual formula for Redmi audio gear: competitive pricing, straightforward features, and a design that still serves a specific audience.
If it reaches more markets, the SonicBass 2 could appeal to users who still prefer wireless earphones with a classic shape, long battery life, and a lower risk of losing an earbud during daily use.
