Apple’s iOS 27 update has drawn attention not only because of its performance and AI focus, but also because it still includes the iPhone 11 series. For many users, that makes older devices look far less outdated than expected.
The update reaches a wide range of iPhone models, from the newest lineup to devices that are no longer sold. That broad support gives Apple users more room to keep their phones longer before considering a replacement.
Which iPhones are included
iOS 27 is available for 31 iPhone models, covering Pro, Plus, regular, e, and SE variants. The list includes iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17e, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 16e, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone SE 2, and iPhone SE 3.
The inclusion of the iPhone 11 family stands out most. Apple is still supporting a lineup first released in 2019, and the company is said to be offering up to 8 years of support for that generation.
Why the update matters
iOS 27 is not designed as a visual overhaul like the earlier version centered on Liquid Glass. Its main priorities are performance improvements, new features, and stronger AI capabilities.
Apple says iOS 27 adds features such as Child Safety, Siri AI, Siri integration in the camera, Spatial Reframing for photo editing, and broader AI improvements across the system. The update is also meant to improve the everyday user experience.
Performance gains are a major part of the pitch. Apple says apps can open 30 percent faster, photos load 70 percent faster in the gallery, and AirDrop transfer speeds can improve by up to 80 percent.
Liquid Glass is also expected to feel smoother, CPU efficiency should improve, and network switching is meant to become more seamless. Apple further links the update to stronger protection against viruses, malware, and hacking attempts.
Current release status
Although Apple has introduced iOS 27 to the public, the update is still in beta. That means it is not yet a stable release and is only available to users who enroll in advance.
Access is available through the Public Beta at beta.apple.com or the Developer Beta at developer.apple.com. Users need an Apple account or Apple ID, then must go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Update after restarting the iPhone.
From there, the device will show the iOS 27 Developer Beta or iOS 27 Public Beta option, depending on the chosen path. Users can then return to Software Update to download and install the update.
Apple also recommends being on the latest version of iOS 26 before trying the new beta. A strong and stable internet connection is important during installation to reduce the risk of overheating or interruption.
Why older iPhones are still worth updating
For older devices, the update is worth paying attention to because it is not only about new features. Apple is also using iOS 27 to deliver bug fixes and security improvements that help keep phones safer.
Users are advised to back up their data before installing the update in case any system issue appears. With support stretching from the iPhone 11 series to the latest models, iOS 27 is shaping up as one of the most notable releases for long-term iPhone owners.
