WhatsApp users on iPhone now have a simpler way to keep personal and work conversations apart. The app has started rolling out support for two accounts on a single device, removing the need to rely on WhatsApp Business or a second phone.

The feature is tied to WhatsApp version 26.22.76 on iPhone, and reports from WABetaInfo say it is now becoming widely available. With the update, users can add a second phone number directly inside the main WhatsApp app.

How the two-account setup works

Each account keeps its own chat space, calls, notifications, privacy settings, and user profile. That separation makes it easier to manage different roles without repeatedly signing out or switching devices.

WhatsApp also keeps the two accounts running within one system, so chat history, notification tones, and privacy preferences remain separate. The goal is to let users move between identities without mixing their daily conversations.

Switching accounts takes only a few steps

To add the second account, iPhone users can open Settings and choose Add Account. They can then enter a new phone number or scan a QR code to link another account as a connected device.

Moving between accounts is also designed to be straightforward. Instead of logging out, users can open the Account menu and select Switch Account.

A shortcut is also available through the profile tab, which gives users another quick way to move between personal and work use. That approach is meant to reduce friction during busy days.

Notifications still arrive for the inactive account

One of the most practical parts of the feature is that the account not currently in use can still receive alerts. When a message or call arrives, the notification appears and can be opened from the relevant account.

This means users are less likely to miss important messages while active on the other account. The notification system is central to making multi-account use feel seamless on one iPhone.

Two accounts remain the limit for now

Even with the added flexibility, WhatsApp still limits iPhone users to two accounts per device. That setup is likely enough for people who only need one personal number and one work number.

Before this feature arrived, many iPhone users turned to WhatsApp Business or a separate device to keep accounts apart. The new option reduces that workaround, even though it does not go beyond the two-account limit.

Updating the app is essential

WhatsApp says the multi-account feature is being delivered through the latest App Store update. Users who do not yet see it are advised to update WhatsApp and check for Add Account in the settings menu.

Before removing an account from a device, WhatsApp also recommends backing up first. That step helps protect chats and data that have not yet been saved.
