Sharp has introduced the AQUOS R11 for Japan, and the flagship does not rely on raw specifications alone to stand out. Its most unusual touch sits on the back, where a “breathing light” joins Leica-supervised cameras and a premium hardware package.
The phone is scheduled to go on sale on July 9, while the unlocked SIM-free price has not yet been announced. That leaves Sharp’s new model positioned as a high-end release that is already drawing attention for design and camera choices before pricing even enters the picture.
Leica-supervised camera system
The rear setup is built around three cameras with Leica input. Sharp lists a 50.3MP main camera, a 50.3MP ultra-wide camera, and a 38.5MP telephoto lens.
Sharp has also added AI-based camera functions to the device. One of the highlighted tools is automatic zoom adjustment, which is intended to help users capture better shots in different situations.
On the front, the AQUOS R11 uses a 50.3MP selfie camera inside a punch-hole display cutout. That choice keeps the screen layout clean while giving the phone a more modern front design.
Premium hardware and display
Under the hood, the AQUOS R11 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. It is paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, placing the device firmly in flagship territory.
Sharp also equips the phone with a 5,100mAh battery and 36W wired charging support. The combination suggests a device built not only for performance, but also for sustained daily use.
The display measures 6.5 inches and uses a Pro IGZO OLED panel. Sharp says the screen reaches a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a peak brightness of up to 3,600 nits.
Design choices beyond the usual flagship formula
Visually, the AQUOS R11 continues Sharp’s minimal design language inspired by Miyake. The company offers the phone in Navy Blue, Ivory Yellow, and Terracotta Red.
The handset measures 156 x 74 x 8.9 mm and weighs 195 grams. Those dimensions keep it relatively compact for a 6.5-inch flagship while still accommodating a large battery and a full camera array.
The rear “breathing light” is one of the phone’s most distinctive additions. Sharp says it supports eight colors inspired by nature and can work with a new white noise mode designed to create a calmer mood before sleep or during relaxation.
That mix of features gives the AQUOS R11 a personality that many flagship phones do not attempt. Rather than focusing only on performance benchmarks, Sharp is pairing its hardware with small lifestyle-oriented touches that are meant to be noticed in everyday use.
Connectivity and durability
The AQUOS R11 also arrives with modern connectivity, including Bluetooth 6.0 and Wi-Fi 7. Sharp is clearly aiming the model at buyers who expect the latest wireless standards from a premium phone.
Durability is another focus, with the device carrying IPX5, IPX8, IPX9, and IP6X ratings for water and dust protection. Those certifications give the phone a stronger protection profile than many devices that concentrate mainly on camera or display upgrades.
With the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, Leica-supervised rear cameras, a very bright OLED panel, and its unusual rear lighting feature, the AQUOS R11 is shaping up as one of Sharp’s more distinctive flagship releases in Japan. The missing unlocked price remains the final detail buyers will be watching before the phone reaches stores on July 9.
