Some Pixel users who installed the stable Android 17 update are reporting an unsettling glitch: home screen widgets are suddenly disappearing. The issue does not appear to affect everyone, but it is showing up more often on devices that use a work profile.
Google has already acknowledged the bug and is preparing a software fix. Android Community Engagement Manager Mishaal Rahman also confirmed on Reddit that the problem appears tied to work profile users and will be patched soon.
What users are seeing on the home screen
Reports describe widgets vanishing at random after the Android 17 update is installed. In some cases, access to widgets disappears immediately once setup is complete.
For Pixel owners without a work profile, the risk appears much lower. That makes the issue narrower in scope, but still frustrating for affected users who rely on widgets as a core part of the Android experience.
Work profile users are taking the hardest hit
So far, the pattern points to phones with an active work profile. That setup is commonly used to separate work and personal data, which means the bug is hitting users who depend on that configuration the most.
There is no convenient workaround at the moment. The only practical option appears to be removing the work profile, restarting the phone, and then adding the widgets back manually.
That can restore the widgets, but it is far from ideal for people who need a work profile for daily use. For now, they may have to choose between keeping the work profile active or keeping their home screen widgets visible.
No timetable yet for the fix
Google has not said when the patch will arrive. Still, based on the company’s usual update cadence, it would not be surprising if the fix appears in next month’s security update.
Android 17 has only just begun rolling out, and Pixel devices are already receiving the stable release. Even so, this case shows that major Android launches can still bring bugs that only become obvious after wider use.
For affected users, the immediate focus is waiting for Google’s official patch. Until then, the disappearing widget issue seems to be manageable only by temporarily disabling the work profile, which is not a practical choice for everyone.
