Xiaomi 14 Pro May Get a Bigger Battery, a Rare Upgrade That Could Pressure Samsung and Apple

Xiaomi appears to be preparing one of the most user-friendly upgrades a flagship owner can hope for: a larger battery without replacing the phone. New certification signals point to the Xiaomi 14 Pro, and the move could indicate that Xiaomi is ready to extend its battery-upgrade program beyond the Xiaomi 13 series.

The latest clue comes from the reappearance of model number 23116PN5BC in network-access certification documents from China’s telecom equipment authority. That number is understood to refer to the Xiaomi 14 Pro, which was first introduced in 2023.

Battery capacity is the key change

Most of the listed hardware details remain unchanged. The Xiaomi 14 Pro still shows a 6.73-inch display with a 1440 x 3200 pixel resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset clocked up to 3.3 GHz, and RAM options of 8GB, 12GB, and 16GB with storage up to 1TB.

The most notable difference appears in the power department. The original Xiaomi 14 Pro carried a typical battery capacity of 4,880 mAh, while the newly registered unit lists a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh.

The gap is only about 120 mAh, but another detail makes the finding more interesting. The rated capacity for both devices remains at 4,760 mAh, which suggests a new battery test with higher energy density rather than a broad hardware redesign.

Signs of a broader battery upgrade plan

That detail has fueled speculation that Xiaomi is preparing a new battery option for a future capacity-upgrade program. Technology tipster Digital Chat Station added to that view by saying the Xiaomi 14 series has been re-registered for network access and may be used as a verification device for a larger battery.

If that happens, Xiaomi would be repeating a strategy it already used with the Xiaomi 13 lineup. In April 2026, the company launched an official battery-upgrade program that let users replace aging batteries with larger-capacity units without buying a new phone.

The program covered the Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and Xiaomi 13 Ultra, and each model received a real capacity boost rather than a like-for-like replacement.

Xiaomi 13 moved from 4,500 mAh to 4,850 mAh. Xiaomi 13 Pro increased from 4,820 mAh to 5,361 mAh, while Xiaomi 13 Ultra rose from 5,000 mAh to 5,500 mAh.

The service was priced at 189 yuan, including both the battery and installation. It drew attention because it offered a practical answer for users dealing with battery wear after years of use.

That approach also aligns with a broader industry trend toward longer device lifecycles. A larger battery can help an older flagship stay relevant for longer, giving owners more reason to keep the device instead of upgrading early.

Xiaomi has not officially announced any expansion of the program to the Xiaomi 14 series. Even so, the latest certification points to active preparation, and a formal battery-upgrade service for the Xiaomi 14 could follow soon.
