Redmi is preparing to launch the K90 Ultra in China on June 30, and the company has already made one thing clear: this phone is built to keep performance stable under pressure. Its standout feature is an active cooling system that sits inside the body, giving the device a gaming-focused identity from the start.
The chipset choice is Snapdragon 8 Elite, but Redmi is placing just as much emphasis on thermal control as on raw silicon. That approach is meant to support sustained performance in long sessions, especially when frame rates and heat management become equally important.
Cooling, not just power
According to Redmi, the active cooling fan can lower device temperature by up to 10 degrees Celsius in 100 seconds. The company uses that claim to argue that the K90 Ultra can hold high performance longer without the drop-off that often appears in demanding games.
Redmi also says the phone can sustain 60 fps at the highest graphics settings for 60 minutes without throttling. In the same comparison, a phone based on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is said to begin throttling after 20 minutes.
Another test described by Redmi focuses on a MOBA game at 144 fps. In that scenario, the K90 Ultra is said to maintain performance for 180 minutes at an ambient temperature of 30 degrees Celsius without throttling, while a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 device reportedly starts slowing after 35 minutes.
Built for long gaming sessions
Those figures place the K90 Ultra firmly in the performance-first category. Redmi appears to be positioning the phone as a device for users who care less about conventional flagship positioning and more about consistency during heavy gaming.
The design makes that intent visible. Redmi has shown the phone in Space Silver, with a prominent rectangular rear camera module that also houses the cooling fan.
The rear camera setup uses two lenses, and the overall look is clean but functional. It is a design that reflects the phone’s priorities rather than trying to hide them.
Display, frame, and durability
Redmi has confirmed a 6.83-inch display with slim bezels, which keeps the phone in premium territory on the visual front. The handset also uses an aluminum alloy middle frame, a choice that typically adds rigidity to the chassis.
In addition, the K90 Ultra is said to offer full protection against dust and water. Redmi has not disclosed the exact certification, but the statement suggests a stronger focus on everyday durability than is often seen in performance-centric models.
The combination of an active fan, a large display, and a reinforced frame gives the device a distinct profile in the crowded upper-midrange and flagship-adjacent market. It is not trying to look ordinary, and Redmi seems comfortable making the cooling system part of the phone’s visual identity.
Price positioning and what remains unknown
Redmi has already indicated that the K90 Ultra will sit in the CNY 3,000 segment. That price range suggests an aggressive push into a class where buyers want high-end performance without moving all the way up to the most expensive tier.
Several important details are still missing, including the full camera configuration, battery capacity, and memory variants. Redmi is expected to reveal more information before the launch event next week.
For now, the K90 Ultra stands out because it tries to solve a familiar problem in a direct way. Instead of relying only on a fast chipset, Redmi is betting that active cooling will be the feature that keeps the phone ahead in long gaming sessions.
