Casio has added three new digital watches to its retro lineup in the United States, and the appeal is easy to see. The A140WE series combines a familiar vintage silhouette with brighter finishing choices and a battery life that is unusually long for a basic digital watch.
The new release consists of two silver versions, the A140WE-8A and A140WE-2A, plus the gold-toned A140WEG-9A. The series first debuted in Japan in May 2026 before reaching US buyers, giving Casio another option in a category that continues to attract fans of old-school digital design.
A familiar shape with a softer retro edge
The A140WE stays close to Casio’s classic digital identity, starting with its square case. Compared with some of the brand’s more rigid retro models, this one uses slightly softer edges that make the watch look a bit less severe on the wrist.
That choice helps the watch keep its vintage character without feeling overly heavy. It is a small design shift, but for buyers who like retro digital watches, those details often make the difference between a novelty and something that feels wearable every day.
The case measures 39 x 36.8 mm and is 10.4 mm thick, while the watch weighs 60 grams. Casio says the size is meant to suit a range of wrist sizes while keeping the watch compact for daily use.
The case itself is made from resin. The silver models use standard chrome plating, while the gold version gets gold-ion plating for a more premium finish.
Sunray dial finishing gives the series its visual punch
Although the watches use a standard digital LCD display, Casio has given the surrounding dial area a more expressive look. The sunray finish changes appearance as light hits it from different angles, adding movement to a watch that is otherwise straightforward in function.
The A140WE-8A comes with a gray dial, the A140WE-2A uses navy blue, and the A140WEG-9A arrives in a light gold tone. That palette keeps the lineup simple, but each variant still has a distinct personality.
Casio also fitted the watches with a multi-row stainless steel bracelet. A vertical hairline finish helps keep the bracelet neat and reinforces the retro look while giving the watch a more polished presence.
The bracelet includes a self-adjustable clasp, designed to sit flat on the wrist and improve comfort for everyday wear. For a watch in this style category, that practical detail matters almost as much as the visual finish.
Simple features, but a long-lasting battery stands out
Under the vintage styling, the A140WE remains a simple digital watch. It is powered by a CR2016 battery that Casio estimates will last about seven years before replacement is needed.
The watch also includes basic water resistance and an electro-luminescent backlight in blue for visibility in dark conditions. Those features keep it aligned with the practical formula that has long defined Casio’s classic digital models.
Casio is clearly not aiming for a feature-heavy smartwatch experience here. Instead, the A140WE focuses on lightweight wearability, recognizable styling, and the kind of low-maintenance operation that has helped retro digital watches remain relevant.
Pricing in the US
All three models are available now in the United States. The two silver variants are priced at $110 each, while the gold model is set slightly higher at $130.
| Model | Main Color | Price |
|---|---|---|
| A140WE-8A | Silver with gray dial | $110 |
| A140WE-2A | Silver with navy dial | $110 |
| A140WEG-9A | Gold with light gold dial | $130 |
The pricing difference matches the finishing split between the silver and gold versions, giving buyers a choice between a more understated look and a more eye-catching one. It also adds another entry to Casio’s broad retro watch catalog, which continues to grow alongside other recent launches, including a G-Shock themed around Pokémon and a new G-Shock collaboration with Toyo Tires.
