Pixel Users Report Silent Incoming Calls, Try Turning Off This Feature

Some Google Pixel owners are dealing with a basic but serious problem: incoming calls ring silently even when the volume and ringer settings are turned up. The issue has been reported across several models, including the Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 9, Pixel 8, and even the Pixel 6a.

What makes the problem especially frustrating is that it affects a core phone function. For the users impacted, the handset still receives calls, but the alert never reaches them in time.

A likely link to call screening

Google has not confirmed the exact cause yet, but user reports point toward Pixel’s call screening and spam protection features. One Reddit user said normal call behavior returned after disabling advanced call filtering.

That detail has put Verified Calls and advanced spam screening under scrutiny. Pixel phones are known for strong scam detection tools, but in this case those protections may be interfering with incoming call alerts.

Reported Pixel Models Issue Suggested Temporary Action
Pixel 10 Pro Incoming calls ring silently Disable Verified Calls and advanced spam filtering
Pixel 9 Incoming calls ring silently Disable Verified Calls and advanced spam filtering
Pixel 8 Incoming calls ring silently Disable Verified Calls and advanced spam filtering
Pixel 6a Incoming calls ring silently Disable Verified Calls and advanced spam filtering

What affected users can try now

The temporary fix begins in the Phone by Google app. Open the app, tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner, and look for Spam and Call Screen or Verified Calls under Advanced Protection.

From there, turn off Verified Calls and any advanced spam filtering that is active. After changing the setting, restart the phone.

According to the users who shared the workaround, that sequence has restored normal incoming call alerts on their devices. It is not yet clear whether the same fix will work for every affected phone, but it is the most concrete workaround currently circulating.

Google is already aware of the issue

The problem has also reached Google’s official issue tracker, which suggests internal teams are monitoring it. Reports indicate the issue has already been assigned for work, with that assignment noted since 24 June.

There is still no confirmed timeline for a permanent fix. Until Google releases an update, affected Pixel users may need to keep call screening features disabled if they want to make sure incoming calls are audible again.
