Baby-G Gets a Modular Twist, Casio Turns a Watch Into a Wearable Charm

Casio has taken Baby-G in an unusual direction with two new models that can be worn in more than one way. The BGD-10KG-2JR and BGD-10KG-4JR are built around a modular setup that lets the digital watch unit detach from the main strap.

That design gives the series a second role beyond the wrist. The watch module can also be placed into the included silicone holder and used as a small charm-style timepiece.

A retro look built for the Y2K comeback

The new models lean heavily into a Y2K-inspired aesthetic that has returned to fashion conversations. Transparent resin straps and glitter-effect dials give the watches a playful, retro appearance without moving away from Baby-G’s casual identity.

Casio is offering the pair in Japan at ¥11,550. Pre-orders are already open through the company’s official online store there ahead of launch later this month.

The modular idea is the real headline

The most distinctive feature sits in the watch’s construction. The digital module can be removed from the standard resin band and inserted into the supplied silicone holder.

That holder comes with its own strap, which means the watch can be worn differently from a standard wristwatch. Users can attach it to a backpack, belt loop, or lanyard and carry it as a separate time-telling accessory.

Casio also says the silicone holder can be decorated to suit personal taste. The company does caution users not to use metal straps, since they may tear the mounting holes.

This approach expands Baby-G from a simple watch into a more flexible fashion accessory. For buyers who enjoy personalization and early-2000s nostalgia, that flexibility is likely to be the strongest selling point.

Baby-G durability stays intact

Even with the detachable design, the BGD-10KG remains a straightforward Baby-G at heart. Casio keeps the brand’s shock-resistant resin body, preserving the rugged identity associated with the line.

The watch is also rated for 100 meters of water resistance. That makes it suitable for everyday use and light water activities, including swimming.

Its compact size measures 42.8 x 39 x 14.7 mm, while the weight stays at just 33 grams. The result is a lightweight watch that should remain comfortable for long wear.

For display protection, Casio uses standard mineral glass. The choice matches the product’s position as a practical fashion digital watch rather than a premium collector piece.

Core digital functions remain familiar

Casio has kept the function set familiar and useful. The watch includes world time support across 29 time zones and 30 cities.

It also offers a stopwatch, a 24-hour countdown timer, and five daily alarms. An LED backlight with a white glow stays on for two seconds to help with reading in the dark.

The watch includes a full auto calendar as well. Power comes from a CR1616 coin battery, which Casio says should last about three years before replacement is needed.

Two variants, one clear concept

The new lineup consists of two variants, BGD-10KG-2JR and BGD-10KG-4JR, both arriving as July additions to Baby-G. While the specifications are the same, the visual presentation and variant numbers separate the pair.

Pre-orders are already live in Japan, and the official release is scheduled for later this month. Casio’s move follows its recent launch of four all-black G-Shock 2100 Luxe Black models in the United States, but this Baby-G pair takes a far more expressive route.

This release shows Casio is still willing to experiment in the fashion-focused digital watch space. By turning the watch module into a detachable accessory, the brand adds a playful angle to Baby-G without dropping the line’s core practicality.
