Galaxy S27 Pro Pulls Back From Ultra, Samsung Redraws the Camera Line

Samsung appears to be taking a more restrained approach with the Galaxy S27 Pro, and that shift may end up making the Galaxy S27 Ultra easier to justify at the top of the lineup. Recent leaks suggest the Pro model will no longer be shaped as a near-duplicate of the Ultra.

Instead, the Galaxy S27 Pro is now said to be positioned as a more balanced middle option. That means stronger hardware than the base model, but without inheriting the full premium camera setup reserved for the Ultra.

A Clearer Gap Between Pro and Ultra

The latest information comes from Naver blogger Lanzuk, who has previously been regarded as a reliable Samsung leaker. According to a report shared by Gizmochina, Samsung is reportedly scaling back the camera ambitions of the Galaxy S27 Pro to keep the differences between the Pro and Ultra more visible.

Earlier rumors had pointed to a Galaxy S27 Pro that would come very close to the Galaxy S27 Ultra in camera hardware. The new direction suggests Samsung has changed course and decided that the Pro should borrow only some camera components from the Ultra, while taking more of its overall identity from the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+.

That setup could make the S27 Pro the model for buyers who want something compact but still more convincing on imaging than the standard version. It would also preserve the Ultra’s role as the obvious choice for users who want Samsung’s most advanced camera package.

Selfie and Telephoto Changes Stand Out Most

One of the more notable details in the leaks is a rumored 16MP front camera for both the Galaxy S27 Pro and the Galaxy S27 Ultra. If accurate, it would mark Samsung’s first upgrade to selfie resolution after years of staying with 12MP sensors.

On the back, both models are still expected to use a 200MP main sensor. The biggest separation, however, is said to come from the telephoto system, and that is where the Ultra is expected to keep a clear advantage.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is also rumored to abandon a dedicated 3x telephoto lens. In its place, Samsung is said to rely on digital zoom and AI for the 1x to around 5x range before switching to a periscope lens.

Details for the Galaxy S27 Pro remain less specific, but the direction is already clear: it will not receive the full premium camera package that belongs to the Ultra. That appears to be an intentional move designed to keep pricing and product separation easier to defend.

Samsung Seems Intent on Protecting the Ultra Tier

The sharper distinction matters because Samsung has often faced criticism when mid-tier premium phones become too close to the company’s top model. By limiting the S27 Pro’s camera ambitions, Samsung may be trying to avoid a situation where the Ultra feels less special.

At the same time, the rumored 16MP selfie camera and 200MP main sensor still point to meaningful upgrades across the upper end of the lineup. So even if the Pro is being pulled back from Ultra territory, both phones could still bring visible improvements over their predecessors.

These details remain early leaks and could still change during development. For now, though, the message is straightforward: the Galaxy S27 Ultra is not expected to face a Pro model that comes too close for comfort in camera performance.

Samsung seems to be taking the safer route by giving the Pro enough strength to feel premium, while keeping the Ultra firmly at the top of the stack.
