Huawei MatePad Air Lands in Malaysia, Ultra-Thin Design Meets 144 Hz Display

Huawei has brought the MatePad Air to Malaysia with a clear pitch: extreme thinness, low weight, and a premium display focused on productivity. At 5.3 mm thick and 509 grams, the tablet is light enough to feel closer to carrying a bottle of water than a typical large-screen device.

The launch was announced by Farangis Sultonzoda, Senior Product Expert Huawei, at Astana at Bamboo Hills in Malaysia on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. During the presentation, Huawei also highlighted that the MatePad Air is slimmer than the MatePad Pro, which measures 5.5 mm.

Thin body, calm colors, and a nearly full-screen front

The back panel uses a smooth, soft-feeling finish, while the color range stays restrained with Airy Blue, Sakura Pink, and White. Huawei describes the palette as calm, matching the tablet’s clean premium positioning.

On the front, the display dominates the design. Huawei says the bezels reach a 92% screen ratio, helping the panel feel wider and more immersive for work and entertainment.

144 Hz panel with anti-glare protection

The MatePad Air features a 144 Hz refresh rate, 2800×1840 resolution, P3 Wide Colour Gamut, and a peak brightness of 1200 nits. Those specifications place the tablet firmly in premium territory for users who care about clarity and motion smoothness.

Huawei also includes nanoscale anti glare etching technology. The company says the anti-reflection performance is 20% better than the MatePad Pro, adding another practical layer to the display package.

For writing and note-taking, Huawei positions the MatePad Air as a tablet that aims to recreate the feel of working on paper. Farangis Sultonzoda said pen support makes the device more appealing because it brings PC-level productivity into a slimmer form.

AI tools, battery life, and accessories

The software package adds multiple AI features, including Speech to text, AI Tutor, Resource Center, AI WPS, Ai Sheet Assistant, and assistance for video editing through Filmora. Huawei pairs that with a 10,100 mAh battery to support day-to-day use.

The accessory lineup includes the M-pencil Pro with Air Mouse Mode, a new brand color, a new pink set, and a folio cover. Huawei is also pushing its audio and communication setup through Immersive Audio 6 speakers.

For video calls, the tablet adds AI Footstep support and a 12 MP ultra clear camera, while GoPaint users can access a full set brush option in the app. With that combination of portability, display quality, and productivity tools, the MatePad Air is being positioned as one of Huawei’s more compelling premium tablets in Malaysia.
