Huawei MatePad Air 2026 Packs an OLED Screen and Rare Battery Life Into a Light Tablet

Huawei has expanded its tablet lineup with the MatePad Air 2026, a model that tries to balance portability with serious endurance. The device stands out most for combining a 12-inch OLED PaperMatte display, a 10,100mAh battery, and a thin, lightweight design.

That mix puts the tablet in a category that is easy to notice for work, study, and entertainment. Huawei is clearly aiming at users who want a large screen without giving up the convenience of a device that remains easy to carry.

A display built for long viewing sessions

The MatePad Air 2026 uses a 12-inch OLED PaperMatte panel with a resolution of 2800 x 1840 pixels. It also supports a 144Hz refresh rate, peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, and 1.07 billion colors with P3 wide color gamut support.

Huawei says the display delivers a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and Delta E < 1 color accuracy. The PaperMatte layer is designed to reduce glare and reflections, which should make the screen more comfortable in different lighting conditions.

Performance, cameras, and thermal management

Under the hood, the tablet is powered by the Kirin T93C chipset and runs HarmonyOS 4.3. Huawei offers 8GB and 12GB RAM options, both paired with 256GB of storage, while a 3D cooling system with a dedicated vapor chamber and high-conductivity graphite handles heat.

For imaging, the rear camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, autofocus, and an LED flash. It can capture images up to 8192 x 6144 pixels and record video at up to 1080p.

On the front, Huawei includes a 12MP fixed-focus camera with an f/2.4 aperture for video meetings, online classes, and selfies. This camera also supports 1080p video recording.

Battery endurance remains one of its strongest arguments

The 10,100mAh battery is one of the most notable parts of the MatePad Air 2026, especially since Huawei pairs it with 66W fast charging. The company claims the tablet can last up to 10 hours for HDR online video playback or up to 16 hours for local video playback.

That makes the device more practical for users who spend long periods watching, reading, or working away from a charger. In a tablet category where thinness often comes at the expense of endurance, this battery is a clear selling point.

Connectivity, audio, and color options

The tablet includes six Huawei Sound speakers, two microphones, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2, NearLink, OTG support, and a USB Type-C port with USB 3.1 Gen 1 speeds. Audio codec support includes SBC, AAC, LDAC, and L2HC.

Available sensors include a gyroscope, Hall sensor, gravity sensor, and ambient light sensor. Huawei offers the MatePad Air 2026 in light blue, cherry blossom pink, and pure white.

Pricing and availability in Europe

According to Gizmochina, the MatePad Air 2026 is already available for pre-order in Europe, with shipments set to begin on 1 August. The non-PaperMatte version with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a bundled keyboard is priced at €849.

The PaperMatte version with the same memory configuration costs €899 and is available with either a keyboard or the M-Pencil Pro stylus. The top-end model with 12GB of RAM is priced at €999 and includes a keyboard.

With its large PaperMatte display, long battery life, and productivity-focused accessories, the MatePad Air 2026 is positioned as a tablet for users who want a slim device without sacrificing core features. It is a familiar formula, but Huawei has made the battery and screen combination hard to ignore.
