Samsung’s new tandem OLED laptop panel reaches up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness while promising more than twice the lifespan of a single-stack OLED under typical laptop operating conditions. The development addresses a central challenge for bright OLED displays, where higher output can place greater demands on the panel.
The panel has earned VESA’s DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification, the highest HDR tier newly introduced by the organization. That certification requires extremely dark blacks and very bright white areas to be maintained on screen at the same time.
Strict HDR Requirements
For DisplayHDR True Black 1400, black pixels must measure 0.0005 nits or lower. A display must also deliver 1,400 nits when white occupies 10% of the screen area.
This 10% white-window test represents high-contrast scenes, such as a bright object against a dark background. Samsung says its panel can exceed that threshold and reach 1,600 nits at peak brightness.

OLED technology is valued for its pixel-level black control, which can make the contrast between dark and bright parts of an image more pronounced. The new panel is intended to extend that strength into much brighter laptop use cases.
Two OLED Layers Share the Work
Samsung’s tandem OLED design stacks two OLED panels instead of relying on a single emissive layer. This arrangement allows the workload required for everyday brightness levels to be shared between the layers.
Samsung says the design delivers more than twice the lifespan of a single-stack OLED in typical laptop conditions. The company also uses new organic emissive materials to improve performance and support panel durability.
The approach matters because sustained brightness has traditionally been a demanding condition for OLED displays. By distributing the output burden, the tandem structure is designed to pursue brightness without setting aside longevity.
Lenovo Is the First Confirmed Laptop User
The panel is already used in the 11th-generation Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition. The laptop features a 16-inch, 3.2K touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, marketed by Lenovo as a PureSight Pro Tandem OLED display.
Its screen supports 100% of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces, along with 99% AdobeRGB. The laptop can also reach 1,600 nits at peak brightness and carries the DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification.

The 32GB LPDDR5X memory is permanently installed on the mainboard. Graphics options include the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 laptop GPUs, each with 8GB of VRAM.
GSMArena reports that laptops from Asus, Dell, and MSI are also expected to use the new panel in the second half of this year. Samsung plans to showcase the tandem OLED panel at K-Display 2026 in Seoul from July 22 to July 24.
