Huawei has once again disrupted the global tablet market with the launch of the MatePad Edge, a powerful 2-in-1 device running HarmonyOS. This tablet is designed not only for content consumption but also for high-level productivity and intensive creativity, blurring the lines between tablets and desktop computers.
The MatePad Edge features a 14.2-inch OLED display with a stunning 3.1K resolution (3120 x 2080 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen-to-body ratio reaches an impressive 94%, enabled by ultra-thin bezels of just 4.1 mm and innovative technology that hides the 32MP front camera without using notches or punch holes. This results in a cinematic visual experience with professional-grade color accuracy.
Key display highlights include HDR Vivid support for dynamic contrast, a peak brightness of 1000 nits suitable for outdoor use, and color accuracy with a Delta E value below 1—meeting standards demanded by designers and photographers. The Soft-Light Display version adds an anti-glare coating to reduce eye strain during prolonged usage, a feature that is rare among tablets and usually found only in high-end studio monitors.
Under the hood, the MatePad Edge is powered by the Kirin X90 chipset, which is commonly used in Huawei’s HarmonyOS desktop PCs. This high-performance processor offers a 3.8x performance boost compared to the previous MatePad Pro 13.2 model. Coupled with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB UFS storage, the tablet delivers laptop-class performance for intensive multitasking, video rendering, and software development workloads.
The tablet runs HarmonyOS 5.1 and supports a dual-mode user interface. Users can switch between a touch and stylus-optimized tablet mode and a full desktop mode complete with taskbar, multi-window management, and keyboard shortcuts. Advanced interaction features include four-finger gesture app switching, a control center interface inspired by macOS, and support for Huawei’s magnetic keyboard and ultra-low latency M-Pencil Pro stylus.
One of the most remarkable innovations is Huawei’s desktop-grade cooling system integrated into the tablet’s slim chassis. The device features dual mini aluminum fans, a Vapor Chamber heat dissipation module, micro-engraved airflow channels, and nearly 4,000 precision-drilled vents. The Liquid-Cooling Edition adds graphene sheets, dual-core micro pumps, and thermal capacity rated at 28W, ensuring the tablet can sustain peak performance without throttling during heavy workloads.
The MatePad Edge also boasts a massive 12,900 mAh battery complemented by Huawei’s SuperCharge technology that delivers an extraordinary 140W wired charging speed. This allows the tablet to recharge from zero to full in under 30 minutes. Additionally, the tablet supports 40W reverse charging to power smartphones, earbuds, or other devices. The USB-C 3.1 Gen1 port supports DisplayPort 1.2 output for 4K monitors and OTG connections to hard drives or cameras.
Sound quality is enhanced by a six-speaker stereo system providing immersive near-ear spatial sound, plus surround panorama mode when paired with Huawei FreeClip accessories. Camera capabilities include dual rear lenses with a 50MP main sensor and 8MP ultra-wide macro, supporting 8K photos and 4K video recording. The 32MP ultra-wide front camera ensures crisp HD video conferencing and selfie vlogging.
On the connectivity front, the MatePad Edge offers dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.2, and Huawei’s proprietary NearLink protocol for ultra-low latency device connections. It also incorporates a comprehensive set of sensors including gyroscope, Hall sensor, ambient light sensor, and fingerprint scanner.
Huawei offers the MatePad Edge in six main configurations, ranging from 16GB RAM/256GB storage to an impressive 32GB RAM/2TB storage variant with Soft-Light Display, Liquid Cooling, and keyboard included. Prices start at approximately $840 (IDR 12 million equivalent) for the base Wi-Fi model and go up to about $1,800 (IDR 26 million equivalent) for the top-end package.

| Wi-Fi 16GB + 256GB | 5,999 | $840 |
| Wi-Fi 16GB + 512GB | 6,499 | $910 |
| Wi-Fi 16GB + 512GB (Soft-Light) | 7,299 | $1,020 |
| Wi-Fi 24GB + 1TB | 7,999 | $1,120 |
| Wi-Fi 24GB + 1TB (Soft-Light + Keyboard) | 9,999 | $1,400 |

In the highly competitive premium tablet market, MatePad Edge stands out against Apple’s iPad Pro, Microsoft Surface Pro, and Samsung Galaxy Tab S9. It offers a larger OLED screen than most 14-inch laptops, a unique active cooling system rarely seen even in slim laptops, and seamless integration with Huawei’s HarmonyOS ecosystem.
While challenges remain regarding app availability and optimization on HarmonyOS compared to iPadOS or Windows, Huawei aims to overcome this with powerful desktop mode features and extensive keyboard support. This makes the MatePad Edge a robust platform for office productivity, design, and coding workflows.
Huawei’s MatePad Edge does more than continue a tablet series—it redefines the concept of tablets as full-fledged mobile workstations. Its advanced display, desktop-level performance, innovative cooling, and ultra-fast charging set a new benchmark in the premium tablet segment. This device effectively signals that the line between tablets and PCs is becoming increasingly blurred, positioning Huawei at the forefront of this transformation in 2025.
