Casio’s G-LIDE line is taking a clearer step toward fitness-focused use with the arrival of the GBX-H5600, a new G-Shock model launched in Japan. Rather than leaning only on rugged styling and shock resistance, this release adds a more complete health and training package for active users.

Two versions have been announced: the GBX-H5600-1 and the GBX-H5600-2. Both are built for outdoor activity, water sports, and daily workouts, which places them closer to the category of durable fitness watches than a conventional sports accessory.

Health tracking moves to the front

One of the biggest changes is the inclusion of a heart rate sensor in the G-LIDE family for the first time. Casio also added an accelerometer, allowing the watch to record steps, distance, and training data in greater detail.

The GBX-H5600 can also measure recovery after sleep, while additional functions include blood oxygen measurement and breathing exercise guidance. All of this data can be viewed through the Casio Watches app, with Bluetooth handling the connection to a smartphone for syncing and monitoring.

For users who focus on training sessions, the watch supports activity tracking for running and walking. Casio says the GBX-H5600 can store up to 100 workout logs, including pace, calories burned, and maximum heart rate.

Built for training, not just appearance

The feature set places the GBX-H5600 in a more serious position within the G-Shock lineup. It also includes cardio load analysis, giving users a better sense of how demanding their workouts are.

That approach makes the watch feel closer to a sports smartwatch in function, while still keeping the rugged identity that defines G-Shock. The result is a device designed to handle active routines without giving up durability.

G-LIDE traits remain intact

Even with the new health features, Casio has kept the core G-LIDE identity in place. The watch still includes functions aimed at coastal and surf-focused use, which remain central to the series.

A tide graph is available, supported by data from more than 3,300 surf locations around the world. The watch also shows sunrise and sunset times, along with moon phase information that can help with outdoor planning.

Water resistance remains set at 200 meters, keeping the GBX-H5600 aligned with use around the beach, the sea, and other wet environments. That combination preserves the activity-ready character of the series while expanding its usefulness beyond traditional surf timing tools.

Lighter build for longer wear

Casio also revised the construction to reduce weight. The company uses bio-based resin and carbon-reinforced materials to keep the watch strong while lowering the load on the wrist.

According to the product information, the GBX-H5600 is 12 grams lighter than the DW-H5600. That difference can matter during running, walking, or long hours of wear, especially for users who want a watch that stays comfortable throughout the day.

Despite the lighter build, the shock-resistant nature of G-Shock remains part of the package. The update is therefore not only about new sensors, but also about improving comfort without weakening the core toughness of the brand.

Display and battery approach

The GBX-H5600 uses a high-resolution MIP LCD designed to stay readable even in direct sunlight. That makes the display practical for outdoor training and beach use, where visibility can become a problem on other screens.

Power management combines solar-assisted charging with USB charging. Solar charging supports timekeeping functions, while USB is used for more demanding features such as heart rate monitoring.

Casio lists battery performance of up to 35 hours during active tracking, around one month in watch mode, and up to 11 months in power-saving mode. That mix gives the GBX-H5600 flexibility for users who move between workouts, daily wear, and longer breaks between charges.

Color options and pricing in Japan

The GBX-H5600-1 comes with a black band and a transparent bezel, while the GBX-H5600-2 is offered in blue for a more distinct look. Both models are listed in Japan at ¥44,000.

Sales are scheduled to begin in May, with a global release expected to follow. With the GBX-H5600, Casio is pushing G-LIDE further into fitness-watch territory while keeping the durability, water resistance, and surf-friendly tools that have long defined the series.
