Huawei has introduced the Pura X Max in China, taking a noticeably different route from most foldable phones on the market. Rather than following the familiar tall-and-narrow formula, the device is built around a wider form that is meant to feel closer to a tablet when unfolded.
That design choice is paired with a consistent screen ratio on both the inside and the outside, giving the Pura X Max a more uniform visual experience across both modes. Huawei appears to be aiming for users who move frequently between the cover display and the main panel and want that transition to feel less abrupt.
A wider foldable format with matching displays
The most distinctive point of the Pura X Max is its unusual body shape. Huawei describes it as the world’s first wide foldable smartphone, and the layout is built around a √2:1 aspect ratio for both the internal and external screens.
This approach is intended to make content feel more balanced whether the phone is open or closed. For daily use, that means reading, browsing, and switching apps may feel more consistent because the screen proportions do not change dramatically between the two modes.
The outer display measures 5.4 inches and supports a 120Hz refresh rate. It also reaches a peak brightness of up to 3500 nits, which should help visibility in bright conditions.
Inside, the main display stretches to 7.7 inches with the same 120Hz refresh rate. Its maximum brightness is rated at 3000 nits, reinforcing Huawei’s focus on a display experience that stays clear and usable in different environments.
Color choices that stand out
Huawei has also put clear emphasis on the phone’s appearance. The Pura X Max comes with a ceramic bezel around the camera module, giving the device a more polished finish and helping the overall design look more refined.
The color lineup is another part of its identity. Available options include Midnight Black, Zero White, Interstellar Blue, Olive Gold, and Vibrant Orange.
Among them, Vibrant Orange stands out the most because it gives the foldable a more expressive look. That choice suggests Huawei is not only targeting users who care about hardware specifications, but also those who want a device with a stronger visual character.
Camera system built for more than looks
The imaging setup remains one of the central features of the Pura X Max. Huawei equips the phone with a 50MP main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 12.5MP ultra-wide camera.
These cameras are positioned under the XMAGE branding, which has become one of Huawei’s best-known photography identities. The system is said to support better portrait results as well as 3D dynamic photos.

Under the hood, the phone uses the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. Huawei also says the chip supports real-time ray tracing, indicating that the device is designed to handle more advanced graphics processing.
For users who want extra productivity functions, Huawei offers the M-Pen 3 Mini stylus. It supports air gestures, includes a microphone, and can be used to activate the Xiaoyi assistant, adding another layer of functionality to the foldable design.
Premium pricing signals its market position
The Huawei Pura X Max starts at CNY 10,999 for the 12GB+256GB version. That places it firmly in the premium category and aligns with its combination of a wide foldable format, bright displays, camera hardware, and AI features.
With this model, Huawei is clearly pushing a different idea of what a foldable phone can be. The wider screen layout, bold color options, and the mix of display, camera, and software features make the Pura X Max one of the more distinctive entries in the foldable segment.
