Apple is reportedly preparing a major visual shift for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary model, and the most striking rumor centers on a four-sided curved display. The latest leak points to a special edition handset that pushes the front design closer to a seamless panel, with Apple said to be working on it alongside Samsung.
The information comes from Digital Chat Station, which claims Apple wants a display approach that feels more daring while also reducing the visible hardware on the front of the device. If accurate, the change would not be limited to appearance alone, since the design direction also appears aimed at making the screen thinner and cleaner from a technical standpoint.
A display move built around Samsung collaboration
One of the most notable details in the report is Apple’s possible work with Samsung on the panel itself. The rumored setup includes the removal of the polarizer layer, a change that could help make the display thinner and improve power efficiency.
That kind of approach is already familiar in the smartphone industry, but it would still mark a new step for iPhone. For Apple, the move would signal a more advanced display strategy than the company has used on its previous models.
Four curved edges, but no final shape yet
The same report describes a display where all four sides are curved slightly. The exact degree of curvature has not been explained, so the final visual result remains uncertain.
Even so, the direction is clear enough to show where Apple may be heading. The front of the device appears to be moving toward a softer, more fluid look with fewer visual interruptions.
Apple’s design language has been shifting gradually
The leak also fits a pattern seen across recent iPhone generations. Since iPhone 15, Apple has introduced more contoured edges to make the device feel more comfortable in hand.
That progression continued with iPhone 17 Pro, which is said to bring a smoother unibody aluminum design. Rather than jumping directly to an extreme redesign, Apple seems to be moving step by step toward a more modern front and frame treatment.
A traditional curved-screen iPhone has never truly existed in Apple’s lineup. If this rumor proves accurate, the anniversary model could become the company’s boldest design departure yet.
A premium look with industry-wide influence
The combination of a four-sided curved display and a flat middle frame is expected to give the device a more luxurious appearance. Similar styling has already appeared on several flagship phones from Chinese brands, so the concept itself is not unfamiliar in the premium segment.
Apple’s influence, however, usually goes beyond following existing trends. Any major visual change to the iPhone often becomes a reference point for the wider industry, and other manufacturers frequently adjust their own designs afterward.
If the 20th-anniversary iPhone adopts this layout, the effect could reach the Android market as well. That would follow a familiar pattern, since Apple design shifts have often encouraged similar elements in competing devices.
A cleaner front remains the long-term target
Beyond the curved display rumor, Apple is also said to still be working toward a true full-screen design. One part of that plan involves moving Dynamic Island below the panel.
That goal remains ambitious, and current technology is not described as fully ready for it yet. As a sign of progress, dummy units of iPhone 18 Pro Max are said to feature a Dynamic Island that is around 25 percent smaller.
Earlier leaks also suggested that at least part of Face ID may move under the display. Taken together, these reports suggest Apple is pursuing a gradual path toward a cleaner-looking front side.
If those plans eventually come together, the 20th-anniversary iPhone could stand as one of the most significant design changes Apple has ever produced.
