Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro Turns Wrist Data Into Diabetes Risk Alerts, No Needle Required

Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro is drawing attention for a health feature that goes beyond the usual heart-rate tracking found on many smartwatches. Huawei says the device can help assess diabetes risk without a blood sample, using a wrist-based system designed for early monitoring.

The feature is called Diabetes Risk Study, and Huawei positions it as part of a broader shift in wearables toward preventive health. Rather than replacing medical testing, the system is meant to turn signals collected at the wrist into an early warning indicator that is easier for users to read.

How the wrist sensor works

The system relies on an optical sensor using photoplethysmography, or PPG. This technology tracks changes in blood flow in the tiny vessels around the wrist and reads biological signals from circulation instead of drawing blood.

That data is not taken from a single moment. Huawei designed the feature to monitor pulse activity continuously for 3 to 14 days, with tracking running day and night so the resulting pattern is more complete and consistent.

More than one data point

After the optical signal is collected, the system combines it with the user’s physical profile. The inputs include age, sex, height, and weight, which helps the analysis reflect the user’s body context rather than pulse data alone.

Huawei then uses a dedicated algorithm to process the collected information. The result appears on the watch as one of three risk levels: low, medium, or high.

What the feature is meant to do

Huawei does not present the system as a diagnosis. Its role is closer to an early alert tool, intended to help users notice potential risk sooner through a wearable device.

The company says the feature was developed together with several institutions and hospitals in China and Dubai. That collaboration is part of the effort to support accuracy and validity for the system.

The diabetes risk function is included in Huawei’s Ultra Health system, placing it within a wider health-monitoring ecosystem rather than as a standalone tool. In Indonesia, the technology arrives through Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro, one of the highlighted models in the Huawei Watch Fit 5 Series.

Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro is priced starting at Rp 3,699,000. The price applies during the sales period from 21 May to 20 June 2026.

With PPG sensing, long-term pulse monitoring, body-profile integration, and algorithmic analysis, Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro reflects how smartwatch makers are pushing further into preventive health features. The device aims to translate wrist-based data into a simpler risk signal that users can understand at a glance.
