Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Packs an 800 mAh Battery While Getting Thinner and Lighter

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 with an 800 mAh silicon battery while reducing its thickness to 10.7 mm. The new model is also claimed to be 26 percent lighter than the first-generation Galaxy Watch Ultra.

The contrast is central to Samsung’s positioning of the watch for demanding exercise and outdoor use. It was introduced at Galaxy Unpacked in London, England, on July 22, 2026.

A Larger Battery Without a Larger Case

The 800 mAh capacity is about 35 percent higher than the 590 mAh battery in the original Galaxy Watch Ultra. Samsung said its silicon battery technology offers higher energy density than conventional battery technology.

That approach is intended to raise capacity without significantly increasing the device’s size. The newer watch also has a 1.52-inch display, giving users more room for maps, workout information, notifications, and apps.

The display reaches up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness. Samsung designed that level to keep information visible in strong sunlight.

Built for Trails and Diving

For trail runners and hikers, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 supports GPX file uploads for offline routes. It can also show elevation profiles to identify climbs, flat sections, and descents along a route.

A Nutrition Alert can remind users to drink or replenish energy after prolonged activity. The watch uses a titanium body, carries an IP69K rating, and supports water resistance up to 10 ATM.

Samsung said the model is the first Galaxy Watch to meet the EN13319 standard for diving accessories. It can monitor information including depth, water temperature, and dive duration, while also providing a metric for estimated safe time underwater.

Samsung has also partnered with Mares for diving-related features. A more affordable subscription fee is being offered during the launch period.

New Processing Platform and Health Tools

The watch is the first Galaxy Watch to use the Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform, made on a 3-nanometer process. Samsung said the platform improves power efficiency, interface response, and switching between applications.

According to Samsung’s John Englehardt, the platform delivers CPU performance gains of up to 32 percent and GPU gains of up to 19 percent. Samsung also said the chipset can improve the accuracy of activity and health readings.

Four new Galaxy AI health features are included: Vitals, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, and Fitness Index. They are intended to provide users with a broader picture of their condition before and during physical activity.

Vitals learns a user’s baseline over about seven nights, then monitors heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen, skin temperature, and respiratory rate. If readings differ from the user’s normal pattern, the watch can send a notification and suggest rest or lower exercise intensity.

Samsung stressed that the health information is not a medical diagnosis and does not replace a doctor’s examination. Heart Health Score combines BMI, average sleep duration over a week, seven-day activity, Vascular Load, and baseline condition into one score.

Daily Cardio Load is primarily aimed at runners and uses training intensity, maximum load, real-time heart rate, and daily progress. It requires seven days of data, while Samsung said better results may be obtained after 20 consecutive days of use.

Fitness Index uses VO2max, heart rate, daily steps, and activity duration to create a fitness score. Users can set goals, including improving running ability, and receive training recommendations.
