The update keeps the familiar Android foundation, but OnePlus is clearly using OxygenOS 16.1 to sharpen the software experience. The company continues to emphasize a lightweight feel, system efficiency, and a more responsive visual experience, all of which remain central to the OxygenOS identity.
Live Space takes the spotlight
The most visible addition is Live Space, a dynamic panel designed to surface real-time information in context. It can appear on the home screen and lock screen, giving users quicker access to ongoing updates without opening separate apps.
OnePlus says Live Space can show navigation, delivery status, music, workout activity, and ride-hailing notifications. The idea is simple: important information stays visible where it is needed, reducing the need to keep switching between apps.
The feature naturally invites comparisons with Live Activities on iPhone or Dynamic Island. Even so, OnePlus frames Live Space as part of a broader multitasking approach inside OxygenOS rather than a standalone visual trick.
AI tools become more deeply embedded
Beyond Live Space, OxygenOS 16.1 expands AI integration at the system level. One of the main changes is an improved AI Smart Reply, which is meant to help users generate automatic responses based on the context of a conversation.
OnePlus also updates AI Notes and AI Summary. These tools are designed to make it easier and faster for the device to summarize text or notes, turning them into more practical everyday utilities.
That direction matches a wider shift in the smartphone industry toward on-device AI. Processing tasks locally can improve speed and efficiency while also helping keep user data more private, since not every request has to rely on the cloud.

The update is not limited to new features. OnePlus also says OxygenOS 16.1 brings refinements to system animations and app-to-app transitions, with navigation intended to feel smoother when opening heavy apps, moving through multitasking windows, or simply scrolling through the interface.
Memory management and power efficiency are also part of the package. The system is expected to handle background app priorities more adaptively so performance stays stable while battery use remains under control.
Security support is included as well, with the latest Android security patch bundled into the release. OnePlus has also optimized app privacy by simplifying permission controls and tying them more directly into the system dashboard.
Rollout is still limited and gradual
OnePlus has not published a full compatibility list yet, but several devices are expected to receive OxygenOS 16.1. The lineup includes the OnePlus 13 series, OnePlus 12, OnePlus Open, and some newer Nord models.
