Apple’s Next iPhone Shift Is Bigger Than Expected, iPhone 19 Pro and Ultra 2 Are Already in Motion

Apple’s long-term iPhone roadmap is starting to look more fragmented, with premium models and standard variants moving on different schedules. The latest leaks suggest the company is already preparing for the iPhone 19 Pro and iPhone Ultra 2 while reshaping how it launches the rest of the lineup.

This approach would mark a clear break from the familiar one-wave iPhone release pattern. Instead of launching everything together, Apple appears to be dividing its rollout into separate phases across the next cycles.

Apple’s 2027 lineup is already taking shape

Leaks point to three models in the 2027 family: iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18, and iPhone 18e. All three are said to use OLED displays with 1.5K resolution.

The iPhone Air 2 is reportedly the largest of the group at 6.55 inches and would use an LTPO 120Hz panel. The standard iPhone 18 is said to feature a 6.3-inch LTPO 120Hz screen.

At the other end of the lineup, the iPhone 18e is expected to be the smallest model. It is said to carry a 6.12-inch LTPS 60Hz display, placing it below the other two in panel quality and refresh rate.

Model Display Size Panel Refresh Rate
iPhone Air 2 6.55 inches LTPO 120Hz
iPhone 18 6.3 inches LTPO 120Hz
iPhone 18e 6.12 inches LTPS 60Hz

Launch timing is being split into phases

Reports about Apple’s launch strategy suggest that the company is no longer planning a single major release window. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable iPhone are said to arrive first in the fall of 2026.

After that, the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to follow in early 2027, alongside the iPhone Air 2. That schedule would create a wider gap between premium and regular models than before.

iPhone 19 Pro is already under internal testing

Another leak says Apple has already started internal testing and mold preparation for the iPhone 19 Pro series. Such a step is normal in hardware development, since device planning often begins a year or more before launch.

The detail reinforces the idea that Apple is already moving beyond the iPhone 18 generation. Even though the product is still at an early stage, the work suggests the next major Pro-line upgrade is already in motion.

The name itself is not considered final. DCS noted that “iPhone 19” is still a temporary label, and the device is better understood as Apple’s next-generation iPhone.

iPhone Ultra 2 is also part of the early work

The same leak also mentions the iPhone Ultra 2, which would be Apple’s second foldable phone. Its folding display is said to have already passed the testing and mold-making stage.

Earlier reporting added that the device will have a larger screen area than its predecessor. That points to Apple continuing to refine the foldable concept rather than rushing it to market.

The Pro line is becoming more distinct

Apple’s current iPhone 18 Pro is expected to bring a variable-aperture camera and a better image sensor. Those changes would further widen the gap between the standard and Pro families.

The same leak indicates Apple wants the feature separation between regular models and Pro models to become even more obvious. If these plans hold, the next generation could become one of the company’s most structurally ambitious iPhone cycles yet.
