Teoscar Hernández Leaves Injured Against Rockies, Dodgers Face Another Outfield Blow

Teoscar Hernández left Wednesday night’s game against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium after suffering a left hamstring strain. The Dodgers outfielder exited after his only at-bat, and the team quickly adjusted its outfield alignment to cover the loss.

Hernández grounded out to shortstop in the second inning and appeared to be in discomfort while running to first base. He grabbed at the back of his left leg on the way to the dugout and moved slowly before leaving the field.

Visible frustration after the injury

The broadcast showed Hernández slamming his helmet in the dugout and touching the hamstring again before heading to the home clubhouse. The reaction underscored how sudden the setback was for a player who had been carrying a strong stretch at the plate.

Hernández had been hitting .276 with a .784 OPS and had recently found a rhythm after moving down to the eighth spot in the lineup in early May. He had also started all but six of the Dodgers’ first 56 games in left field, giving the club steady production and regular coverage on the grass.

Dodgers shift coverage in left field

With Hernández out, the Dodgers turned to Hyeseong Kim in left field while keeping their pregame plan intact for starting right fielder Kyle Tucker’s day off. Kim had 44 appearances in left field during his KBO career and also played 17 games in center field last year, but this was his first time handling left field as a Dodger.

That move gave Los Angeles an immediate option without altering the rest of the outfield setup more than necessary. It also showed how the club is trying to preserve flexibility while managing multiple moving parts in the lineup and on the roster.

Possible roster paths if an injured-list move follows

If Hernández needs time on the injured list, the Dodgers have several ways to fill the opening on the 40-man roster. One option is Tyler Fitzgerald, acquired from the Blue Jays for cash considerations in late April, as the club looks to replace some of the versatility lost when Kiké Hernández returned to the IL with a left oblique strain.

Other possibilities include Ryan Ward or Alek Thomas for additional outfield depth. For now, Hernández’s status will determine how the Dodgers handle the next stretch, with the club already forced to manage another injury-related absence in the outfield mix.
