A renovated Soho penthouse duplex at 111 Wooster St. has become a surprise celebrity magnet, with Doja Cat and Chris Rock among the visitors. The two-bedroom home is now asking $4.75 million while a tenant remains in place.
The apartment also just set a new rental benchmark for the year, leasing for $30,000 a month to a tenant in finance. Brokers said that was a record per-square-foot price so far this year.
A high-profile list of visitors
Doja Cat toured the property with an entourage, according to the report. Chris Rock also stopped by on his own, and a source described him as “a very cool, laid back guy.”
The same source said Rock had “a very specific location in mind, in Soho, and this is it,” though the penthouse may have felt a bit small for the comedian.
Other visitors included singer-songwriter Hozier and his girlfriend, model Hana Mayeda, along with Richard Schiff, who won a Primetime Emmy for playing Toby Ziegler on “The West Wing.”
Why the apartment stands out
Douglas Elliman broker Evan Shaffer, who is listing the apartment with Micah Zimmerman, said the location is a major draw. He noted that it sits on a triple prime Soho block that is still not crazy crowded.
Shaffer also pointed to the gut renovation and the views, describing the home as “a true duplex inside and out, with two levels of outdoor space that are spectacular.”
The 1,620-square-foot aerie sits at the top of a six-story building that dates to 1891 on a cobblestoned street. It has two bedrooms and two baths.
Inside the duplex
The newly renovated home includes a chef’s kitchen with a walk-in pantry and a full-sized washer/dryer. Wide-plank white oak floors and high ceilings add to the clean-lined interior.
The main bedroom suite has floor-to-ceiling windows, a skylight and panoramic city views. A second bedroom features a sliding glass wall and can work as a private guest room, office or creative studio, and both bedrooms include built-in closets.
Outside, the landscaped two-story spaces come with custom seating, irrigated planter boxes and views that stretch from the Empire State Building to One World Trade. The penthouse’s combination of privacy, outdoor space and skyline outlooks appears to be what keeps drawing attention from celebrity buyers and renters alike.
