Kayla McBride is using her scoring touch for more than wins this season. The Minnesota Lynx guard has joined Humane World for Animals as an ambassador for its More Than a Pet campaign, putting every point she scores toward meals for pets in underserved communities.
To launch the role, McBride is taking part in the Points for Pets initiative. Humane World for Animals will donate 250 meals for every point she scores in the 2026 WNBA regular season, and 1,000 meals for every three-pointer she makes.
How the campaign works
| Performance | Donation Outcome |
|---|---|
| 1 point | 250 meals for pets |
| 1 three-pointer | 1,000 meals for pets |
The total points and meal donations will be tracked on the More Than a Pet website through a dedicated online progress tracker during the regular season. The campaign focuses on a crisis that affects an estimated 20 million pets in the United States living with families experiencing poverty.
Humane World for Animals says 70% of those pets have never seen a veterinarian. The organization says More Than a Pet is meant to help keep pets healthy and with the families who love them, regardless of income, geography, or background.
McBride said her own dog, Tucker, gives the campaign personal meaning. “My dog, Tucker, is a part of my family. He constantly reminds me how strong the bond between people and pets really is. That’s why being part of the More Than a Pet campaign means so much to me,” she said.
“Every point I score can help provide meals and support for pets in underserved communities. It’s inspiring to know the game can have an impact beyond the court. Keeping people and pets together—that’s a mission I believe in,” McBride added.
Why Humane World for Animals sees this as urgent
Amanda Arrington, vice president of Access to Care for Humane World for Animals, said many families love their pets but still struggle to afford veterinary care, food, and basic supplies. “Keeping pets healthy, happy and with the families who love them should be within reach for everyone,” she said.
McBride, a 12-year WNBA veteran, was drafted third overall by the San Antonio Stars, made the WNBA All-Rookie team, and has been selected to the WNBA All-Star team five times. She is also fifth on the all-time WNBA Career Leaders 3-pointers list.
So far in the 2026 WNBA season, she has scored 324 points and made 46 three-pointers, which has translated into 127,000 meals for pets.
The Points for Pets idea is not new. The inaugural version launched in 2024 with Charlotte Hornets All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball, who scored 1,184 points and helped generate 296,000 meals for pets.
Humane World for Animals says its access to care programs, Pets for Life and Rural Area Veterinary Services, have distributed more than $126 million worth of pet food and supplies to underserved families. Those programs have reached over 750,000 pets with more than 38 million pounds of pet food and 12,800 pallets of pet supplies.
