Galaxy Unpacked Is About To Get Wider, and Samsung May Be Saving Its Biggest Surprise

Samsung’s summer Galaxy Unpacked event is set for July 22 in London, and this one could look different from the foldable launches that usually define the company’s midyear showcase. The tease so far points to new shapes, not just updated hardware, as Samsung leans harder into its foldable lead ahead of Apple’s fall event.

The company said it will introduce “its latest Galaxy innovations” that build on its foldables, combining “intelligent capabilities and new form factors” to deliver more personal, adaptive experiences for the AI era. That wording leaves room for more than the standard Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip refresh.

What Samsung may show

ProductWhat the rumors suggestWhy it matters
Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7Refreshed with new processors and other tweaksContinues Samsung’s 7th generation foldable lineup
Galaxy Z Fold 8 wide7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratioWider screen could work better for movies with less wasted space
Galaxy Z Fold UltraRegular Fold-style version, possibly rebrandedCould separate a standard model from the wider-format sibling
Galaxy XR GlassesGlasses with cameras and microphonesDetails on price and availability are still missing
Galaxy Watch 9Battery boost and a new processor, with a possible design refreshCould be one of two new smartwatches at Unpacked
Galaxy Watch Ultra 2Rumored battery boost to 800 mAhWould be the biggest battery of any Wear OS watch

Samsung has already experimented with bolder designs, including the Galaxy Z TriFold, which launched in January. Now rumors suggest the company is working on a wider Fold that would use a 4:3 inner display, a change that could make the device feel less square than the current generation.

There is also talk of a more familiar Fold-shaped model that would keep the proportions of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. That version may carry the Ultra name instead, which would help distinguish it from the wider model if both appear together.

Smart glasses, watches, and the parts Samsung has not filled in yet

Google has already talked about Samsung’s upcoming smart glasses, which are being made in partnership with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. CNET’s Scott Stein has tried prototypes, but the exact role Samsung will play and the final product details were kept back for this event.

The glasses are expected to include cameras and microphones for Gemini AI interaction, but Samsung has not said what they will cost or when they will go on sale. That leaves them as one of the most closely watched announcements for anyone following Android XR.

Two new smartwatches are also rumored for the stage, with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 getting the most attention thanks to the battery speculation. The regular Galaxy Watch 9 is also expected to get a modest battery increase alongside new processors and possible design changes.

Samsung has confirmed it is working on the Galaxy Ring 2, but that device may be too early for this summer’s event. A teaser would not be surprising, yet the more likely launch window appears to be CES in early 2027 or Mobile World Congress shortly after.

Samsung’s event will stream on the company’s website and YouTube channel at 9 a.m. ET, 6 a.m. PT, and 2 p.m. BST on July 22. With Apple’s rumored iPhone Fold still ahead on the calendar, the London stage gives Samsung a chance to show how far it is willing to push foldables before the next big smartphone rivalry begins.
