Silverfield Appointed as New Head Coach for Hogs, Aiming to Lead Team Forward

Silverfield Named Hogs’ New Head Coach

Ryan Silverfield has been officially named the 35th head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks football program. The announcement follows his remarkable tenure at Memphis, where he compiled a 50-25 record after taking over in December 2019.

Silverfield’s Memphis teams posted two consecutive 10+ win seasons and earned bowl eligibility in all six years under his leadership. During the past three years, Memphis recorded 29 wins, ranking among the nation’s Top 15 programs in victories.

Hunter Yurachek, Arkansas’ Vice Chancellor and Athletic Director, expressed confidence in Silverfield’s leadership, stating, “Coach Silverfield shares our vision of making the College Football Playoffs and competing for a national championship.” He also highlighted the university’s new financial commitment to the football program.

At Memphis, Silverfield’s offenses were consistently high-scoring. His teams averaged over 30 points per game every season, including a No. 19 national ranking in scoring this past year with 34.6 points per game. Memphis also became one of five schools nationally to rank in the Top 20 for scoring in three consecutive seasons.

Defensively, the Tigers showed marked improvement, allowing an average of 22.5 points per game this year, the best during Silverfield’s era. Memphis ranked third in the American Athletic Conference in both scoring defense and yards allowed per game. The Tigers forced 19 turnovers, tying for 13th in turnover margin nationally.

Memphis enjoyed historic success in Silverfield’s final year, achieving back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time in school history with an 11-2 finish, including a Frisco Bowl victory. That season ended with rankings inside the Top 25 of the Coaches and AP polls, a significant accomplishment for the program.

Before becoming Memphis head coach, Silverfield worked as an offensive line coach and coordinator, and also spent time coaching in the NFL and at several collegiate programs. His diverse experience and recruiting acumen were key factors in his rise through the coaching ranks.

Silverfield will bring to Arkansas not only a record of sustained success but also extensive local ties, familiarity with the region, and a strong foundation in building competitive programs. He is joined by his wife Katie and their twin daughters, Adeline and Celicia, as they prepare to embark on this new chapter with the Razorbacks.
