Xiaomi’s New Foldable Could Take Aim at Rivals With a Wider Screen and 200MP Camera

Xiaomi appears to be preparing a new premium foldable that could push the company deeper into one of the most competitive parts of the smartphone market. Leaks tied to HyperOS suggest the device is being tested with a wider form factor that may improve everyday use both when folded and unfolded.

That direction matters because the foldable category is increasingly defined by practical outer-screen design and better multitasking on larger displays. Xiaomi’s rumored approach suggests it wants to compete not only on hardware ambition, but also on how usable the phone feels in regular daily scenarios.

A wider foldable design is at the center of the speculation

The earliest clues came from HyperOS interface elements that reportedly show a layout different from the Xiaomi Mix Fold series. Technology enthusiasts then matched those clues with render concepts for a wide-format foldable, including designs that resemble the Huawei Pura X Max.

That comparison has fueled the belief that Xiaomi is experimenting with a broader folding device rather than another conventional book-style format. Still, interface leaks alone are not enough to confirm the final design that will reach consumers.

Long-awaited follow-up to the Mix Fold line

Xiaomi has not introduced a direct successor to the Mix Fold 4, which was released in 2024. Current reports suggest the company may be preparing a new device that could arrive under different names depending on its final positioning.

The names circulating so far include Xiaomi Mix Fold 5, Xiaomi 18 Fold, and Xiaomi 17 Fold. There is no official confirmation yet on which commercial name Xiaomi will use at launch.

Leica partnership and a 200MP main camera

Camera hardware is another major talking point around the rumored foldable. Early reports say the device will feature a triple-camera system developed with Leica.

The main camera is said to use a 200MP sensor. If accurate, that would place the phone among the most ambitious camera-focused foldables in the premium segment.

Xring O3 and a stronger AI focus

Performance leaks point to Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 chipset as the processor under consideration. Such a move would highlight Xiaomi’s effort to strengthen its internal technology ecosystem and reduce reliance on external chip suppliers.

The chipset is also expected to bring optimizations for foldable hardware and more advanced AI features. That combination could become one of the device’s key selling points if Xiaomi wants to stand out through efficiency as much as through design.

HyperOS is being tuned for large-screen use

Because this model sits in the premium flagship category, Xiaomi is also said to be refining HyperOS for a larger display experience. The focus is reportedly on smoother animations, more flexible app window management, and better multitasking on a wide screen.

There are also reports that Xiaomi is improving the hinge mechanism to boost durability and reduce visible screen creasing. That remains one of the most important factors in foldable phones, where hinge quality and crease visibility strongly influence buyer interest.

Possible debut in China next year

Xiaomi has not made a formal announcement about the device. Even so, industry sources say development is already at a fairly advanced stage.

If the schedule holds, Xiaomi’s next foldable could debut in China around August 2026. A global launch timeline is still unclear, although the company is likely to prioritize the domestic market before deciding on broader expansion.

With a wider screen, a Leica-backed 200MP camera, Xring O3, and HyperOS improvements focused on productivity, the device could become a serious challenger in the premium foldable space. Competition in this category is intensifying, and Xiaomi seems to be preparing a response that goes well beyond the Mix Fold name alone.
