Eagles DT Jalen Carter to Miss Monday Night Football After Shoulder Procedure

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter will not play in Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers following a recent medical procedure on both shoulders. According to sources cited by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Carter underwent the procedure this past Monday and is currently being treated while his return date remains week-to-week.

Carter’s decision to step back from action reflects his goal to be fully healthy for the postseason. The 24-year-old experienced ongoing shoulder problems throughout the season, affecting his performance. He acknowledged his struggles after the Eagles’ 24-15 loss to the Chicago Bears, stating, "There were some runs I got drove back or I wasn’t making no effect on the play."

Despite his discomfort, Carter chose to keep the specific nature of his condition private. “It’s my problems to deal with. I ain’t gonna tell everybody what I’m going through,” he said. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio confirmed Carter’s shoulder issues this week, noting he has been playing through pain. "Late in the game, he had a great play with it, but it’s definitely something there," Fangio remarked.

Selected ninth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Carter has been a critical asset for the Eagles. Over two-plus seasons, he has accumulated 107 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 12 passes defended. His accolades include being named to the NFL All-Rookie team and earning Pro Bowl honors last season. Carter was instrumental in the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning defense, which ranked No. 1 in the regular season.

With Carter sidelined, the Eagles’ defensive line depth will be tested. Veterans Moro Ojomo and Jordan Davis are expected to lead the front. Additionally, third-year player Byron Young and rookie Ty Robinson will see increased playing time to help compensate for Carter’s absence.
