Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett is set to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx in a multifaceted off-court role, according to sources. This position will involve business operations, community outreach, fan engagement, and content creation.

The longstanding Timberwolves star had been distant from the franchise since 2016 due to disagreements with former owner Glen Taylor. However, Garnett has rebuilt rapport with current governors Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, leading to the reunion.

The Timberwolves plan to retire Garnett’s iconic No. 21 jersey during one of the next two seasons. Garnett had previously declined this honor, reflecting the earlier tensions with management.

Garnett’s return agreement was finalized this month with help from his business manager Rich Gray and attorney George Daniel. This marks a significant step in strengthening the franchise’s connection with its legendary alumnus.

As a 15-time NBA All-Star, Garnett remains the Timberwolves’ all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He is the only NBA player to top a franchise in all five statistical categories.

Garnett also holds the franchise’s sole MVP award from the 2003-04 season. He led Minnesota to eight successive playoff appearances, including its only playoff series win until recently.

Since acquiring the team, Lore and Rodriguez have prioritized revitalizing the Timberwolves’ culture by engaging with former players and staff, with Garnett playing a central role. Their vision also includes long-term investments in team operations and infrastructure.

Notably, the Timberwolves have committed to a revamped front office under president Tim Connelly. The team is now entering its third season paying luxury tax and plans to build a new arena in downtown Minneapolis within the next decade.

Currently, the Timberwolves hold a competitive 17-10 record. They continue to strive for favorable postseason positioning in the Western Conference after back-to-back conference finals appearances.
