Apple’s next major iPhone redesign is shaping up to be more than a cosmetic update. Leaks around the iPhone XX, also referred to as the iPhone 20, point to a device that could push the company much closer to a fully uninterrupted front display.
The most striking part of the rumored design is a quad-curved screen that wraps around all four edges. Early renders based on prototypes also suggest a softer, more rounded body, creating a front surface that blends more tightly into the frame.
A more radical front design
Several supply-chain reports indicate Apple has been testing a bolder direction than the iPhone 17 Pro. That direction centers on a full curved panel that changes how the phone looks from the front, making the display feel more like a single sheet of glass.
Apple is also said to be evaluating advanced Samsung panels for this approach. If that effort reaches the final product, the iPhone’s design language would move noticeably toward a smoother and more futuristic appearance.
A fully clean front may still be difficult to achieve right away. The same reports suggest a smaller front cutout could remain if Apple cannot hide all Face ID components beneath the panel.
Face ID and controls may become less visible
Face ID is expected to play a major role in the new layout. Apple is reportedly trying to move the entire system under the display, which would be one of the biggest visual changes on the front of an iPhone.
If that system is not ready in time, the notch or Dynamic Island may shrink into a single front camera hole instead. That would still be a major step toward a less interrupted screen, even if it does not deliver a completely seamless look.
The physical controls may also become less traditional. Another rumor points to capacitive or solid-state buttons, which would reduce the reliance on moving mechanical parts and continue Apple’s push toward a more minimal design.
Display technology is also changing
Beyond the shape of the panel, Apple is reportedly looking at CoE, or Color filter on Encapsulation, for the display stack. That technology can make the screen structure thinner, but it also requires a new anti-reflective layer to maintain good image quality.
This suggests Apple is not only chasing a dramatic look, but also trying to manage the technical demands that come with a more advanced display. The result could be a thinner-feeling screen assembly that still aims to preserve clarity and visibility.
Camera upgrades are part of the plan
The camera system is also expected to see major changes. Leaks mention LOFIC sensors, which are intended to improve HDR performance and expand dynamic range, especially in difficult lighting conditions.
There is also discussion of a variable-aperture camera system, although the exact implementation remains unclear in the early renders. Those same renders show a dual-camera setup, which stands apart from Apple’s current flagship models that typically use three rear cameras with telephoto and ultra-wide lenses.
Battery changes aim to preserve the slim profile
Apple is also said to be preparing Silicon Anode batteries for the iPhone XX or iPhone 20. The goal is to increase capacity without making the device physically larger.
That approach fits the broader direction of the rumored device. Apple appears to be trying to combine a more extreme display design with internal efficiency, rather than allowing new hardware to make the phone thicker.
Still a moving target
The current images and details should be treated as work in progress rather than a finished product. With launch still more than a year away, the iPhone XX design may continue to change before it reaches production.
There is also a possibility that the anniversary model will be positioned as a special edition while Pro variants carry a stronger camera system. If that happens, Apple could separate the celebration model from the performance-focused main line in a more deliberate way.
