RTX 5070 Returns In A Smaller Omen 15, HP Adds 180 Hz Display And 70 Wh Battery

HP’s refreshed HyperX Omen 15 is now positioned as a more compact alternative to the Omen 16, while still keeping key gaming hardware at the center of the package. The 15-inch model pairs Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU with a 70 Wh battery, and it does so in a smaller chassis that leans into portability without dropping into the midrange.

The new model also marks the return of the Omen 15 name in a redesigned form. HP first showed the laptop a few months ago at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, and current availability appears limited to North America for now.

Display choices stay focused on high refresh rates

The standard configuration uses a 15.3-inch IPS panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1600p, or 2.5K. HP lists a 180 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 500 nits for this display, which keeps the machine aligned with the expectations of a modern gaming notebook.

For buyers who want a different panel type, HP also has an OLED option. That version moves to 1800p, or 2.8K, runs at 120 Hz, and is rated at 500 nits for SDR content and 1,100 nits peak brightness for HDR.

Intel and AMD versions are both in the mix

HP previously said the Omen 15 would arrive with Core Ultra 9 386H and other new-generation AMD and Intel options. The models now listed for sale use a Ryzen 7 8745HX with Zen 4 cores, a Core Ultra 7 356H with Cougar Cove and Darkmont cores, and another Intel option in the form of the Core Ultra 9 356H.

HP has not confirmed whether the newer AMD option will follow later, so the final lineup may still evolve. For now, the available configurations show that HP is keeping the processor split broad across both major platform families.

Pricing and configuration details in the US

In the US, the two IPS-based 180 Hz versions are both priced at $2,099. Each one includes the RTX 5070 with 8 GB of graphics memory and a 1 TB SSD, but they differ in memory capacity and processor choice.

The Core Ultra 7 356H model comes with 32 GB of RAM, while the Ryzen 7 8745HX version ships with 16 GB of RAM. Both are listed with the same IPS display and the same asking price.

A separate configuration uses the Core Ultra 9 356H, 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and the OLED 120 Hz panel. That model is priced at $2,799 and still relies on the RTX 5070 8 GB as its main graphics solution.

Availability starts at different times

HP says orders for the Core Ultra 7 356H and Ryzen 7 8745HX models will begin shipping on 3 July. The Core Ultra 9 386H version is expected to become available between 27 May and 1 June.

With a 180 Hz screen, RTX 5070 graphics, and both AMD and Intel processor options, the Omen 15 is being placed as a more compact 15-inch gaming laptop that still aims for premium-level specifications. At this stage, though, the announced configurations remain centered on the US market through HP’s American website.
