Apple Prepares Siri As A Standalone Chatbot, While The iPhone 18 Pro Camera Gets A Major Overhaul

Apple’s next major software cycle may place AI at the center of the iPhone experience, with Siri reportedly evolving into something much closer to a chatbot than a traditional voice assistant. At the same time, the Camera app on iPhone 18 Pro is said to be getting a substantial redesign that ties photography more closely to AI tools.

The latest details about iOS 27 suggest that Apple is preparing a much broader shift than a simple feature update. Bloomberg says the information and renders circulating now come from people who have seen the software directly, which is why the leaked features are being treated as unusually specific.

Siri is expected to become far more active

The biggest change appears to involve Siri itself. Instead of only responding to voice commands, the assistant is said to analyze on-screen content, personal data, and web information so it can complete tasks more automatically.

Apple is also reportedly planning a Dynamic Island integration for Siri. In that setup, the usual Siri trigger would turn into an interactive animation in that area whenever a user issues a voice command.

Another interface called “Search or ask” is also said to be in development. It would open with a swipe gesture from the top center of the display and let users search text, open apps, and handle AI-based tasks.

The most notable addition may be a standalone Siri app. For the first time, users would reportedly get a chatbot-style interface similar to ChatGPT or Claude, complete with conversation history, file or photo attachments for analysis, and a voice mode.

Bloomberg also says Apple is testing support for third-party AI models. That would allow users to route questions to Google Gemini, OpenAI ChatGPT, or Anthropic Claude directly from that interface.

Camera changes aim at smarter workflows

The iPhone’s built-in Camera app is also rumored to be getting a major functional overhaul. Apple is said to want the app to feel more accessible to everyday users while also offering more utility for advanced users.

One of the key changes is a dedicated camera mode that would replace the current Visual Intelligence experience. With it, users could capture an object and then immediately ask Siri or another AI agent to analyze it, or send it to Google reverse image search.

The camera interface may also become more customizable. A new “add widgets” panel is said to let users replace shortcuts in the top row, making tools such as depth settings or specific shooting modes easier to reach.

AI tools are also spreading across iOS 27

Beyond Siri and Camera, iOS 27 is said to bring AI features across the system. One of them is natural-language shortcuts, which would let users build complex automation flows simply by describing what they want.

Bloomberg also mentions AI-generated wallpapers, a system-level grammar checker, improved Genmoji, and an updated Image Playground for AI-made visuals. Together, these additions point to Apple pushing AI far deeper into the overall iPhone experience.

That does not mean every feature will arrive on every device that supports iOS 27. Some of the more advanced functions are said to be limited to iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Ultra with the A20 Pro chip.

There is still room for changes before anything reaches release. Some details may differ between the WWDC preview and the final version expected in September, and Apple has not commented on the leaked iOS 27 renders that are now circulating.
