The first signs of Apple’s foldable iPhone may be coming from something unexpected: a case rather than a device render. Accessories that have surfaced on Chinese sites such as iFunSmart are offering the clearest hints yet about the direction of the so-called iPhone Fold, or iPhone Ultra.
One detail stands out immediately. The device may not include built-in MagSafe support on the body itself. If that holds true, users would likely need a case to enable magnetic wireless charging.
A case that reveals the layout
The leaked accessory appears in black and shows several important cutouts. The volume buttons are said to sit along the upper side of the device, while the power button is placed on the right side.
Below the power button, there is also a small opening that is believed to be reserved for a band antenna. On the back, the case leaves room for a dual-camera module shaped in a way that is said to resemble the iPhone Air design approach.
What the design hints suggest
Those details fit with earlier rumors that Apple is preparing a foldable phone unlike the current iPhone lineup. The device is reportedly intended to be extremely thin, measuring around 4.7 mm when unfolded and 9.23 mm when folded.
Screen sizes are also part of the story. The outer display is said to measure 5.5 inches, while the inner panel reaches 7.8 inches with a wider aspect ratio.
Both displays are rumored to use Samsung’s M16 OLED technology. That choice suggests Apple wants to balance premium display quality with the efficiency required in a device with a very slim body.
A different iPhone identity
If the current rumors are accurate, the foldable model will leave out several familiar iPhone traits. Face ID and the Dynamic Island are reportedly not part of the plan, and Apple is instead said to be using punch-hole cameras on both displays.
For biometrics, the company is said to be moving to Touch ID integrated into a side-mounted button. That approach would fit the demands of a foldable design, where internal space becomes far more complex than in a standard phone.
The casing leak also aligns with the idea that the power button sits on the right edge, where the fingerprint sensor may be placed.
Camera and hardware expectations
Apple is not expected to load the rear with multiple extra lenses. The foldable iPhone is tipped to use two rear cameras, made up of a 48 MP main sensor and a 48 MP ultrawide lens, with no telephoto camera.
On the front, the rumors point to an 18 MP selfie camera in a punch-hole setup on both sides of the screen. There is also talk that Apple is testing an under-display camera for the inner panel.
Under the hood, the device is expected to run on the A20 Pro chip built on a 2 nm process. That chip is expected to bring better performance and efficiency than the A19 Pro.
Memory and storage are also said to be generous for an iPhone. The foldable model is rumored to come with 12 GB of RAM and storage options of up to 1 TB.
Battery and launch chatter
Battery capacity is another point drawing attention. Apple is said to be preparing the largest battery ever used in an iPhone, with capacity estimated between 5,400 mAh and 5,800 mAh.
That would be a major element for a foldable phone, especially one that has to support two displays while fitting into a very thin chassis. The combination of slim design, large screens, and a high-capacity battery remains one of the biggest engineering challenges in this category.
Apple is reportedly aiming to introduce its first foldable phone during the usual September launch window for new devices. For now, though, the company has not confirmed the final name or the final specification sheet.
The names iPhone Fold and iPhone Ultra continue to circulate among leakers, while the leaked case provides one more clue about the device’s physical layout. It does not confirm every technical detail, but it does strengthen the idea that Apple is preparing a foldable iPhone with a noticeably different design philosophy, from the camera setup to the way MagSafe may be handled.
