Xiaomi 17T Brings Periscope Zoom To The Regular Model, Narrowing The Gap With Flagships

The biggest shift in Xiaomi’s T series in Indonesia is not just the arrival of a new model, but the way the regular version now looks much closer to a premium phone. Xiaomi 17T arrives with a periscope telephoto camera, a feature that was previously more closely associated with higher-tier devices.

That change immediately narrows the gap between the standard model and the Pro variant. For users who care about long-range photography, Xiaomi 17T now carries a much stronger appeal than previous regular T-series models.

A regular model with flagship-style zoom

The most notable update on Xiaomi 17T is its 50 MP periscope telephoto camera. It supports 5x optical zoom and OIS, while also offering up to 10x lossless zoom for more flexible framing.

Xiaomi also adds AI Ultra Zoom up to 120x, giving the phone a broader reach for extreme magnification. A telemacro mode with a 30 cm focusing distance is included as well, making close-up shooting part of the package.

Leica tuning remains part of the identity

The camera system is not built on the new telephoto hardware alone. Xiaomi continues its Leica partnership through Leica Live Moment, Leica signature filters, and Leica color profiles.

The phone also uses a Leica Summilux Optical Lens and Leica UltraPure Optical Design. Together, those elements reinforce the idea that the regular Xiaomi 17T is not merely gaining one premium feature, but keeping the camera character that defines the series.

Triple-camera setup and front camera details

On the back, Xiaomi 17T carries a 50 MP Light Fusion 800 main camera with OIS, a 50 MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and OIS, and a 12 MP ultrawide camera. The front side uses a 32 MP selfie camera.

This setup helps position the phone as a more complete daily device. It is designed not only for zoom use, but also for general shooting across different situations.

Display keeps the package competitive

Xiaomi 17T also brings a 6.59-inch MAOLED display with 1.5K resolution, or 2756 x 1268 pixels. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, peak brightness of 3,500 nits, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.

Its relatively compact size should still make the phone comfortable to hold. At the same time, the screen provides enough room for media, gaming, and everyday use.

Why the standard model now matters more

The arrival of the Xiaomi 17T Series in Indonesia shows that Xiaomi still places the T line in a high-spec category with a strong camera focus. The main difference this time is how important features are being distributed more evenly across the lineup.

Marketing Director Xiaomi Indonesia, Andi Renreng, said the 17T Series comes with comprehensive improvements. The main focus is on delivering better telephoto photography on both devices, which makes the regular model feel more premium from the start.

That shift matters because 5x optical zoom is now available on the standard Xiaomi 17T, when it was more commonly reserved for higher models before. With a 50 MP periscope camera and Leica support, the regular version no longer feels like a simple lower-cost alternative.
