PalmCo’s PSR Lead Is Hard to Ignore, 6,672 Hectares Put It Ahead of Rivals

PTPN IV PalmCo has emerged as the most active company in supporting Indonesia’s smallholder oil palm replanting program, or PSR, according to the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency. The scale of its field support has placed it ahead of other companies involved in the same national effort.

The agency’s Acting Head of the Upstream Fund Distribution Division, Dwi Nuswantara, said PalmCo ranks first with 6,672 hectares under assistance. Sinar Mas follows with 4,426 hectares, while Asian Agri is listed at 3,204 hectares.

Why the company stands out

PalmCo’s position reflects more than a large number on paper. It points to a shift in how PSR is being carried out, where success depends not only on financing but also on technical support in the field.

That support matters because replanting smallholder plantations involves stages that can decide whether the program moves smoothly or stalls. Companies that can guide farmers through those technical steps now play a more decisive role in pushing the program forward.

A program built on large-scale targets

PSR has been supported by BPDP funds since 2017. Each year, the government is said to allocate around Rp3 trillion to replant about 100,000 hectares of smallholder oil palm plantations.

The scale of that commitment also shows why implementation on the ground remains a challenge. With such a wide target area, active company-level assistance becomes increasingly important to keep the replanting agenda moving.

PalmCo’s strategic position

As a sub-holding of PTPN III (Persero), PalmCo holds a strategic place in Indonesia’s plantation ecosystem. Its leading area of support suggests a level of involvement that goes beyond routine participation.

BPDP’s data also indicates that PalmCo’s influence lies not only in the breadth of its role, but in the intensity of its presence at field level. In a program aimed at lifting productivity in smallholder plantations, that kind of technical backing can be the difference between formal participation and measurable progress.
