Pixel 10a Quietly Gets Pixel 10’s Most Useful Feature, and It Changes Phone Calls

Pixel 10a has picked up one of the most practical features previously limited to the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro: Voice Translate. The on-device voice translation tool is designed to make live phone conversations across languages feel far more seamless.

That matters most for people who travel often or regularly speak with contacts in another language. Instead of relying on separate translation steps outside the call, the feature works directly inside the Phone app.

A quieter upgrade with real everyday value

Voice Translate first drew attention when Google launched it on the Pixel 10 lineup, where it was positioned as a way to smooth out cross-language calls. Until now, Pixel 10a owners and older Pixel users did not have access to it.

According to Android Authority, the feature is now arriving through the June Pixel Drop, even though it is not clearly highlighted in the update notes. That makes it one of the more important additions in the release, despite being easy to miss.

To turn it on, users can open the Phone app, go into Settings, and enable Voice Translate. Google has placed it inside the core calling experience rather than as a separate utility.

Language support remains limited

The feature is useful, but it still supports only a small set of languages. Google currently lists French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

That limit means it will not cover every conversation yet. Even so, for users who regularly communicate in one of those languages, the benefit is immediate because translation happens on the device.

More than just Voice Translate

Pixel 10a is also getting several other additions in the same update package. These include Screen Reactions, Bubbles, a music-making tool, and Gemini Omni.

Screen Reactions is aimed at creators who want to record their reaction to what appears on the Pixel display. Bubbles is designed to keep favorite apps available as floating bubbles for quicker access.

The multitasking benefit is clear, especially on foldable devices with larger displays, although Pixel 10a still gets the basic function. Google is also adding a Gemini-based music creation tool that can generate simple songs for sharing in chat or using in other casual ways.

Gemini Omni is another standout addition, allowing AI-generated video creation from scratch, by remixing existing footage, or by using templates. Access to that feature is not free, since it requires a Google AI Pro or Plus subscription.

Where Pixel 10a fits

Pixel 10a remains a notable device in Google’s lineup because of its modern hardware foundation. It uses the Google Tensor G4 chip, 8GB of RAM, a 6.3-inch Actua display with 1080p resolution, and a 5,100mAh battery.

The phone also carries a 48MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens, while shipping with Android 16. Google says the device will receive software updates for 7 years, which makes feature additions like Voice Translate more meaningful over the long term.

The June Pixel Drop is now rolling out to compatible Pixel phones. Users can check for it by going to Settings, then System, then Software updates, and running System Update to look for the latest release.

For many Pixel 10a owners, the most noticeable change may be the one that was previously reserved for the more expensive Pixel 10 models. Voice Translate turns a routine phone call into something much easier to manage across language barriers.
