Sony has expanded its premium headphone lineup with 1000X THE COLLEXION, a release that places luxury design alongside the brand’s long-running audio engineering. The new line marks a decade of the 1000X series and signals a more refined direction for its flagship headphones.
The launch is not limited to aesthetics. Sony is pairing premium materials, updated comfort, and its latest audio tools in a package aimed at users who want a more personal high-end experience.
A Decade of the 1000X Series
1000X THE COLLEXION arrives as a 10-year milestone for the series that began with the MDR-1000X in 2016. Over that period, the 1000X family built a reputation around strong sound quality, intelligent noise cancelling, and an ergonomic fit.
Sony is also introducing a Sandstone color option for the WH-1000XM6. The new finish adds a more personal styling choice while keeping the same core performance associated with the model.
Luxury Details in the Design
Sony has given the headphones a more elaborate finish this time. The headband uses premium metal with a matte sandblasted texture, combined with manual polishing to create a more polished and sturdy look.
The company also says the faux leather material was developed over two years to improve long-term comfort. Larger earcups are designed to reduce pressure and help improve sound isolation.
Small details were also refined to keep the exterior clean. Metal buttons and hidden microphones preserve a minimal appearance while supporting the premium feel.
The headphones are available in two main colors, Platinum and Black. Both versions lean into a modern, restrained style with subtle metallic accents.
More Detailed and Immersive Audio
On the audio side, 1000X THE COLLEXION uses a custom driver made from unidirectional carbon composite. Sony says that approach helps deliver clearer sound, greater detail, and a wider soundstage.
Audio tuning also involved a GRAMMY®-winning engineer, with the final sound profile shaped to feel more natural, balanced, and emotional. Sony is also including DSEE Ultimate™ with AI support to upgrade compressed audio in real time.
For spatial listening, 360 Reality Audio Upmix is available in three modes: Music, Cinema, and Game. The feature is designed to create a more immersive audio experience across different types of content.
Noise Cancelling and Everyday Convenience
The new model keeps one of Sony’s best-known strengths, its noise-cancelling system. A Multi-Noise Sensor setup with 12 microphones works with Adaptive NC Optimizer to adjust noise reduction automatically based on the environment.
Sony also maintains up to 24 hours of battery life, clear call quality, and more stable connectivity. Those additions keep the headphones positioned not only as a listening device, but also as a practical option for daily use.
In terms of sustainability, Sony says around 25% of the plastic used is recycled material. The packaging is also plastic-free as part of the company’s environmental efforts.
More Accessible by Design
Beyond the premium finish, Sony has added accessibility-focused details. The headphones are intended to be easier to use for people with mobility or vision limitations.
Clear L/R markings, tactile buttons, and a magnetic carrying case are included to make the experience more practical. The approach broadens the appeal of the product without sacrificing its design language or material quality.
1000X THE COLLEXION will be available in Indonesia starting 12 June 2026 at around Rp10,999,000 for the Platinum and Black versions. At the same time, the WH-1000XM6 in Sandstone is priced at around Rp7,499,000.
