Samsung appears to be preparing a major reset for its Galaxy S lineup, and the rumored Galaxy S27 Pro could be the clearest sign yet that the company wants to reshape its middle tier. The model is said to replace the Plus variant, a change that may finally give the lineup a more defined structure.
The most striking part of the leak is not the new name alone. Samsung is reportedly testing the Galaxy S27 Pro with a Privacy display, a feature long associated with Ultra-class devices.
According to leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Galaxy S27 Pro is being evaluated with a 6.47-inch display that supports Privacy display. If accurate, that would place it squarely between the base and Ultra models in Samsung’s next flagship family.
A clearer middle position
The reported screen size would put the Galaxy S27 Pro in a more balanced position than the current Plus model ever had. The base Galaxy S27 is expected to use a 6.1-inch display, while the Ultra version is said to arrive with a 6.9-inch panel.
That middle-ground sizing could help Samsung avoid one of the biggest complaints about the Plus line. The larger model has often felt difficult to justify because it offered little more than a bigger screen and a bigger battery.
In contrast, a Pro model with a more manageable size and meaningful premium features would create a sharper identity. It also could make the gap between Samsung’s standard and top-end phones easier for buyers to understand.
Privacy display changes the value equation
Privacy display is the kind of feature that changes how a device is used in public. It can automatically obscure sensitive information on the screen from people looking over the user’s shoulder.
That can include passwords, credit card numbers, and incoming notifications. Compared with the privacy screen protectors sold in stores, the built-in approach is more flexible because it works at the display and content level.
The feature also gives Samsung a stronger reason to use the Pro name. Instead of being a simple size upgrade, the middle model would gain a privacy-focused capability that feels genuinely premium.
More Ultra features may follow
Privacy display may not be the only high-end feature moving down the lineup. Previous rumors have also suggested that the Galaxy S27 Pro could borrow the Ultra model’s 200MP main camera sensor.
If that happens, Samsung would be changing the usual role of its mid-tier flagship in a meaningful way. Camera hardware has often been one of the most visible differences between the base, Plus, and Ultra versions.
One Ultra feature that does not appear likely to make the jump is the S Pen. The simple reason is that the stylus makes less sense on a device with a smaller display.
Why Samsung may be rethinking the lineup
The rumored shift could also help Samsung streamline the broader Galaxy S strategy. With a Pro model in the middle, the standard Galaxy S27 can stay simpler, while premium features remain concentrated in the Pro and Ultra tiers.
That would give Samsung clearer spacing between each device and more room to position the higher-end models as distinct upgrades. It could also make the lineup easier to market at a time when hardware differences matter more than ever.
There is also a business side to the move. Samsung is reportedly dealing with rising memory and storage costs, so stronger feature separation could help protect margins across the range.
For now, the Galaxy S27 Pro remains a rumor, and the final product may still change before launch. Even so, the direction of the leaks suggests Samsung is trying to solve the Plus problem with a model that is easier to understand, easier to recommend, and less compromised than the one it would replace.
