Apple’s 2,500 Dollar Foldable Could Make Samsung Both Rival and Supplier

Apple’s first foldable iPhone could put Samsung in an unusual position: competitor in smartphones and supplier in components. Samsung Display is widely expected to provide OLED panels for the device often referred to as the iPhone Ultra.

That arrangement means stronger sales of Apple’s foldable may also increase display-panel demand for Samsung. The two companies already have a long-standing supply relationship for OLED screens used in regular iPhone models.

Apple is reportedly targeting sales of 10 million units for its first foldable phone. The goal is notable because the device is expected to carry an average price of 2,500 dollar AS, or around Rp 45 juta.

IDC projects that the highest-storage version could reach 3,000 dollar AS, or around Rp 54 juta. Apple has not officially announced the product name, price, storage configurations, or launch schedule.

Estimate Figure Details
Sales target 10 million units Raised from an earlier 7-8 million estimate
Average price 2,500 dollar AS About Rp 45 juta
Top variant 3,000 dollar AS About Rp 54 juta

The reported 10 million-unit objective is higher than the initial projection of 7 million to 8 million units. It would be an ambitious first-year target for a company entering a category where Samsung and Huawei already have established products.

For buyers in Indonesia, the eventual retail price could be higher than the global estimate. Apple products have previously followed a different local pricing pattern from their global price references.

A Major Share of Foldable Demand

Counterpoint Research expects global orders for foldable smartphone panels to reach about 27.5 million units in 2026. That volume would represent projected growth of roughly 24 percent from 2025.

The iPhone Ultra is expected to account for about 29 percent of those panel orders. That would place Apple ahead of Huawei’s projected 24 percent share, while remaining slightly below Samsung at 31 percent.

Brand Projected 2026 Foldable Panel Share Rank
Samsung 31 percent First
Apple through iPhone Ultra 29 percent Second
Huawei 24 percent Third

The projections suggest Apple could become a major foldable player in its first year in the segment. The company is expected to enter when premium pricing and the market structure are already more established.

Samsung has sold foldable phones since 2019, while Huawei has aggressively promoted similar devices in China. Foldable clamshell models have also helped the category become more visible than it was several years ago.

Premium Pricing Will Be the Key Test

The foldable iPhone may appeal to Apple users who want a folding design without switching to Android. Its commercial outcome, however, will depend on how many buyers accept a price range of 2,500 to 3,000 dollar AS.

The reported sales target and pricing estimates were compiled by Kompas Tekno from TechSpot. Final details, including the official name and country-specific pricing, remain subject to an Apple announcement.
