The low-cost EV segment in Indonesia is no longer a one-name race. Four compact models now stand out most often in the Rp100 juta to Rp200 jutaan range: Seres E1, Wuling Air ev Lite, BYD Atto 1, and Changan Lumin.
What makes this group interesting is that each model wins in a different area. One leads in power and range, another leans on digital convenience, another emphasizes safety hardware, and another feels roomier inside despite its compact footprint.
Different strengths, different buyers
BYD Atto 1 is the strongest performer in this group. It uses a 55 kW electric motor, equivalent to 73 horsepower, with 135 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful among the four.
Its appeal does not stop at output. The top variant can travel up to 380 km, which gives it more flexibility for use beyond short urban trips.
Wuling Air ev Lite takes a more modest route. Its 30 kW motor produces around 40 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque, so it is better suited to simple daily mobility in the city.
Seres E1 sits close to Air ev Lite in performance, but it adds a stronger safety package. Changan Lumin lands in the middle on power, with 47 horsepower and 83 Nm of torque, placing it above Air ev Lite and Seres E1 but below Atto 1.
A clear split in equipment
When the discussion shifts to features, BYD Atto 1 again takes the lead. It comes with a 10.1-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and up to six airbags on the top variant.
The model also includes an Electric Parking Brake and Auto Hold. That combination gives it a more premium feel in the affordable EV class.
Wuling Air ev Lite focuses on a different kind of convenience. Its WIND system allows vehicle control through an app, which suits users who value connected features.
Seres E1 answers with practical safety equipment. It uses disc brakes on all four wheels and is supported by ABS, EBD, ESC, and Hill Hold Control.
It also brings a digital air-conditioning control panel inside the cabin. That detail helps the interior feel more modern for buyers who prioritize everyday usability.
Changan Lumin relies on a 10.25-inch screen with smartphone connectivity. It is not presented as the most complete package for safety, but it still offers a straightforward setup for daily use.
Cabin space and passenger needs
Among the four, Changan Lumin stands out for interior width. Its width is around 1,700 mm, which helps the cabin feel more spacious than some rivals in this compact class.
Even so, it still seats four people. The same four-passenger layout also applies to Wuling Air ev Lite and Seres E1.
That makes these three models more suitable for solo drivers, couples, or short urban trips with limited passengers. They fit the profile of compact city EVs rather than family-oriented cars.
BYD Atto 1 is the only model here with five-seat capacity. That gives it a stronger case for small families that want an affordable EV with more practical passenger flexibility.
| Model | Power | Range | Capacity | Main advantage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BYD Atto 1 | 73 hp | 380 km | 5 people | Performance and features |
| Wuling Air ev Lite | 40 hp | – | 4 people | Connectivity |
| Seres E1 | Around 40 hp | – | 4 people | Full disc brakes and safety equipment |
| Changan Lumin | 47 hp | – | 4 people | Roomier cabin |
The current market shows that affordable EVs are no longer defined by one dominant model. The better choice now depends on what matters most to the buyer, whether that is performance, digital convenience, safety equipment, or cabin space.
