Huawei’s 13-Inch MatePad Pro Max Outruns iPad Pro On Thinness, While Its Matte Display Steals Attention

Huawei is pushing the 13-inch tablet category in a direction that few rivals have matched. The MatePad Pro Max stands out first for its body, which measures 4.7 mm thick and weighs 499 grams, making it thinner and lighter than the iPad Pro at 4.9 mm.

That slim profile is only part of the appeal. Huawei is pairing it with a display and accessory setup aimed at users who read, draw, and watch a lot on a larger screen.

A thinner build without giving up structure

Even with its very thin frame, the MatePad Pro Max is not presented as a fragile device. Huawei uses a metal unibody design and places the mainboard in a centralized layout to help with heat management.

The company also adds a load-bearing beam structure in high-pressure areas. Camera, mainboard, and battery sections are reinforced with steel so the tablet can better resist local pressure and deformation.

The PaperMatte display is the main draw

The most distinctive feature is the PaperMatte panel. Huawei gives the screen a matte texture and anti-glare design, which makes the tablet more appealing for reading, sketching, and media use.

The display itself is a 13.2-inch 3K OLED panel that is described as brighter and more vivid in color. Huawei also reduces the bezels, including the front camera area, and places the selfie camera inside a 3.5 mm bezel without a cutout for a cleaner look.

Designed for media and creative use

For video playback, the display is said to avoid the grainy effect that can bother some users. That matters because the MatePad Pro Max is positioned as a premium large-screen tablet that should work well for long viewing sessions.

For drawing, the matte surface is meant to feel more comfortable under a stylus. Huawei also offers a bundle with a stylus that can integrate with the keyboard accessory, and that combination is described as more pleasant for drawing than the iPad Pro.

Big battery, slim shell

Huawei still fits a 10,400mAh battery into the chassis. The company uses a silicon battery and claims it can last for more than 14 hours of video streaming on a single charge.

That battery capacity gives the tablet more credibility as an everyday device, not just a design exercise. It should help users go through long streaming sessions or extended work periods without needing frequent charging.

Accessories and performance details

Huawei also prepares the Glide keyboard as a companion accessory. It is described as lighter than Apple’s Magic Keyboard, although it does not use the floating hinge design found on Apple’s version.

On the performance side, Huawei says the MatePad Pro Max is 20 percent faster than its predecessor. The company also points to a new thermal management system that it compares to high-end gaming notebooks, while early testing took place on beta software, which means the hardware’s full potential was not yet fully clear.

A premium tablet with one familiar limitation

The MatePad Pro Max is set to arrive globally in the coming weeks. It is aimed at buyers who want a premium OLED tablet with an unusually thin body, a matte display, and strong stylus appeal.

There is still one notable limitation: Google services are not included by default. Even so, Play Store installation is said to remain easy, which reduces the barrier for many users who would otherwise hesitate.
