A compact flashlight does not usually combine pocket-friendly size with serious long-range output, but the Nitecore P27iX is built around that exact idea. It delivers up to 5,000 lumens and reaches as far as 470 yards, giving the EDC category a more aggressive lighting profile without abandoning portability.
Nitecore is already taking orders for the P27iX through its official store at $159. The flashlight also carries an IP68 rating, which places it in a more durable class for outdoor use and harsher conditions.
Fast access to both floodlight and spotlight
The control layout is designed for quick operation in different lighting needs. Nitecore places the main button near the head of the flashlight, while two rear buttons provide faster access to key functions.
Those rear controls act as shortcuts to the strongest floodlight mode and the strongest spotlight mode. Nitecore also includes a lock switch to help prevent accidental activation when the flashlight is stored in a bag or pocket.
An LED indicator is built in as well. It shows battery capacity and the brightness level currently selected, so users can check status without turning on an extra mode.
High-output modes are meant for brief use
Nitecore separates the P27iX’s fastest and brightest functions from its regular operating modes. The company refers to the quick-use modes as Search and Lumin-Shield, and both are intended for short bursts only.
That limitation exists because the head of the flashlight becomes too hot during extended high-output use, after which the output is automatically reduced. Regular modes, by contrast, are designed for continuous operation.
According to Nitecore, runtime in regular use is at least 2:30 hours when using floodlight, spotlight, or a combination of both. At the lowest level, the P27iX is claimed to last up to 100 hours.
Replaceable battery and USB-C charging
One of the key differences between Nitecore’s P series and its standard EDC line is the use of a replaceable battery. The P27iX runs on a 21700 battery with a capacity of about 20Wh.
Charging can be handled externally, but Nitecore also adds a USB-C port directly on the flashlight body. The port is covered by a metal cap, which helps protect it during transport and field use.
The flashlight measures 5.6 inches in length and weighs about 4.4 oz. That keeps it within EDC-friendly dimensions, even though its lighting output is far more powerful than a typical daily-carry model.
Positioned between everyday carry and tactical use
Nitecore showed the P27iX alongside the smaller P17iX during a hands-on session at IWA in Germany, but only the P27iX has reached official sale so far. The P17iX is still not available.
With its replaceable battery, fast-access controls, and USB-C charging, the P27iX targets users who want a compact flashlight with more flexibility than a standard EDC unit. Its mix of portability and high-output lighting puts it in an unusual middle ground between everyday carry and tactical-style flashlights.
