Android users may finally be close to getting the Snapseed experience they have been waiting for. Snapseed 4.0 is said to arrive on both iOS and Android this week, which would bring platform parity back into focus after months of uneven feature rollout.
The clearest sign came from a recent Instagram Reel posted by Snapseed product lead Giles Ochs. In the video, a user comment asking about Snapseed on Android appeared just before the message: “Snapseed 4.0 out on iOS and Android this week.”
A long wait for Android
The update matters because Snapseed on Android has lagged behind the iOS version for some time. That gap felt especially notable for an app owned by Google and widely known across mobile platforms.
Earlier in the year, iOS users had already gained several features that Android users did not have. Those included an in-app camera, advanced manual controls, film simulations, and analog-style filters.
Features that first reached iPhone
Among the tools that appeared first on iOS were film simulations inspired by Kodak Portra, Gold, and E200. The iPhone version also added looks based on Fujifilm Superia and Pro 400H, along with filters that mimic Polaroid 600 and Technicolor.
That split left the Android version feeling behind for users who had followed Snapseed’s development closely. As a result, the arrival of version 4.0 is being viewed as an important step toward closing that gap.
Hints that the release is near
Ochs had already signaled in February, through Reddit, that the team expected the update to take a few months. Two months after that initial note, development was still said to be on track, although no exact release timing was available at the time.
His latest Instagram caption makes the timing sound much more certain. “The wait is almost over. snapseed 4.0,” he wrote, reinforcing the message that the update should land this week.
Why the update draws so much attention
Snapseed remains a popular choice for users who want a simple photo editor. That makes any major update worth watching, especially when it changes the relationship between the iOS and Android versions.
The contrast also stands out because Snapseed’s last update on Google Play was recorded in May 2024. For Android users, that long gap has made the upcoming release feel more significant than a routine app refresh.
What has not been confirmed yet is the full list of changes in version 4.0. There is still no official detail on whether Android will receive every iOS feature at once, or whether any additional tools will be included in the rollout.
For now, the most important point is straightforward: the next Snapseed update appears close, and Android users may soon see the app catch up after a prolonged period of waiting.
