Garmin has started rolling out stable software version 9.04 for the Approach S44 and Approach S50, and the update brings more than routine maintenance. For Approach S44 owners, it also restores a music control element that had been quietly failing in the background.
The most noticeable fix targets a hidden glitch in the music controls glance on the Approach S44. In some cases, parts of the control buttons would disappear from view, making it harder to manage playback directly from the watch.
That issue matters because the music controls glance is one of the quickest ways to access audio controls during everyday use. When buttons are missing from the screen, even a small visual bug can interrupt a feature that is meant to be fast and convenient.
Version 9.04 also addresses a separate problem tied to golf scoring. On some courses, score entry did not appear automatically after a user left the green following the final hole, which affected an important part of the watch’s on-course workflow.
Garmin has also fixed an issue involving a connected Rangefinder. Under certain conditions, the measurement arc from that device did not display properly, reducing clarity during play. For a golf smartwatch, that kind of correction is as important as interface cleanup because it affects core use on the course.
The update arrives about four months after version 8.04, which had already tackled several issues related to the music app and the PlaysLike feature on these golf watches. That earlier release set the stage for a more complete stability pass, and 9.04 continues that effort with broader repairs across the system.
Garmin shared the change log through a post on its forum, where a company representative confirmed that the update is now available to all users of both the Approach S44 and Approach S50. That means owners do not need to wait for a prolonged staged rollout before getting the fixes.
